The 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games are upon us, an event running from Tuesday, August 1, to Sunday, August 6, nestled within the dynamic landscape of Madison, WI. Divisions for Age Group and Adaptive athletes have already been fiercely underway since August 1, gearing towards an exciting finale on August 3. In lockstep, the Team Division competition is set to ignite on August 3, the sparks of competition flying until a champion team ascends the podium on August 6.
Cutthroat Competition: Survival of the Fittest Amidst the Teams and Individuals
A captivating twist has been added to this year’s proceedings – a two-tier cut system designed to refine the cream of the crop within the Team and Individual divisions. Friday, August 4, promises to be a dramatic threshold as only the topmost 30 Teams and Individual competitors earn their stripes for the battlefield on Saturday. The suspense further escalates post Saturday’s grueling workouts, with only the premier 20 Teams continuing their relentless pursuit of glory.
End of an Era: The Absence of a Legacy and the Dawning of a New Reign
CrossFit Mayhem Freedom, a team that has etched its mark in the annals of the sport under the stalwart leadership of Team Captain Rich Froning Jr., is noticeably absent this year. The team, whose competitive journey is punctuated by five CrossFit Games Team championships (2015-16, 2018, 2021-22), has left the field wide open. With Froning Jr.’s retirement casting long shadows, the curtains of the 2023 contest will fall to the heralding of a new team, one that holds the potential to dictate the course of CrossFit’s future.

Day 1
A New Dawn Unfolds: The Inception of the 2023 CrossFit Games
In the Starting Blocks: Team Competition Kicks Off
The inaugural day of the Team competition commences with the first of two thrilling events. Squaring off in heats, teams vie for crucial early points that will determine their overall standing.
An Explosive Opener: The 2-2-2-2 Redux
The opening event demands strategic planning as teams are divided into two male/female pairs. Their challenge? Accumulate 175 overhead squats. However, the clock is ticking – every two minutes, one pair must complete a 12/9-calorie SkiErg (M/F) and one seated, legless rope climb (M/F), interspersed with max-rep synchronized overhead squats. After two minutes, the first pair halts while the second takes up the baton. This high-octane relay continues through four intervals per pair, amounting to a total of eight intervals per team. At 10:00 a.m. CST, the whistle blows for the event’s kickoff. Stay tuned for results as they roll in.
