The Sheffield Powerlifting Championships of 2023, held on March 25-26, has quickly become one of the most prestigious events in the history of powerlifting. The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), the largest drug-tested powerlifting federation in the world, sanctioned the event, which drew in some of the most talented athletes from around the globe. One of these athletes was the legendary Amanda Lawrence, who has dominated the 84-kilogram weight class for some time. In the 2023 event, Lawrence continued to impress, setting three new IPF World Records.
Amanda Lawrence’s performance began with an impressive 246.5-kilogram (543.3-pound) squat, which broke her own IPF Raw World record of 243.5 kilograms (536.8 pounds) that she had set at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships. Lawrence’s squat marked her first record of the day, setting the tone for the rest of her impressive performance.
In the bench press, Lawrence lifted 130 kilograms (286.6 pounds), an incredible feat but unfortunately, she was unable to beat her competition personal record. Nevertheless, this impressive lift laid the foundation for Lawrence to set a massive Total, putting her in a strong position for the final event.
Heading into the final event, Lawrence remained focused and composed, preparing herself for the raw deadlift. With a phenomenal lift of 268.5 kilograms (591.9 pounds), she broke her own IPF World Record, which she had previously set at the 2021 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, where she lifted 260.5 kilograms (570.4 pounds). Lawrence’s raw deadlift was an incredible display of strength, capping off her outstanding performance at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships. Overall, her performance has cemented her status as one of the greatest powerlifters of all time.
