Sam Sulek’s recent expression of interest in the Classic Physique division has added a new level of excitement. During a recent interview, Sulek hinted at potentially entering the Classic Physique category in future, within the next year to a year and a half.
Sulek quickly gained popularity within the fitness and bodybuilding community due to his consistent gym updates and witty attitude. Despite being just 22 years old, his massive physique has garnered widespread acceptance, thanks to his honest and down-to-earth demeanor.
While some followers and even IFBB Pros have questioned his unconventional eating habits, Sulek’s ability to sculpt a top-level physique is evident. He provides his audience with full access, sharing insights on everything from full days of eating to training intensity.
Despite his openness, one question remained unanswered: when would Sam Sulek compete in bodybuilding? Finally, during a seminar celebrating the latest 2024 Arnold Classic UK bodybuilding event, he revealed his plans, including the division he intends to compete in and a tentative timeline for his debut on stage.
Sam Sulek Teases Future in Classic Physique Division, ‘Probably Within a Year, Year and a Half’
Sulek suggests he may venture into the Classic Physique category within approximately one to one and a half years.
“Yeah, so the plan is going to be Classic. I’ve keep hearing words I’m trying to gain weight into the Open but you got to remember, a real Open bodybuilder… that’s a lot of mass.”
“I think I’m kind of big but when I train with them, I’m like oh jeez, I’ve got some room to grow. So, I think the plan at first is going to be Classic. But if I get big enough that I don’t fit the weight class, then just move up.”
Sulek assured fans that they might see him on stage in a ‘year, year and a half.’
“You gotta remember there is no way imaginable in my vocabulary where I’m going to say I’m too big that’s just impossible. But probably within a year, a year and a half, we’ll just have to see,” shares Sam Sulek.
Sulek briefly described his “old school” training approach, highlighting the value of hard work over strictly scientific methods.
“If you want to go to the gym and get the best results that you can, you would want to try to do every set absolutely perfectly and stimulate every fiber in the most scientifically-backed way, but just by thinking about it with such a complex thought process you’re totally losing sight that you just need to get really hyped up to a Metallica song and just go crazy.”
Before embarking on his physique transformation, Sulek candidly acknowledges finding inspiration from motivational YouTube videos.
“It was this YouTube channel, just a compilation of real motivational videos like that serious kind of somber music. I think with guys like that… I don’t want to say they are unapologetic, but they are very honest about how they are obsessed with the gym.
The people that I like the most that I can resonate with the most, are the guys that I know if there were no cameras, no expos… they would still be trying to squat until their nose bled and throw around as much weight as possible and go hard. Guys like that, I sort of pick up from.”

If Sam Sulek proceeds with his bodybuilding career and ventures into the Classic Physique division, he will likely face formidable competition. While the reigning five-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead has stated he won’t compete past 30, there remains a possibility of seeing Bumstead and Sulek go head-to-head before the champ’s retirement.
Moreover, Sulek would have to contend with other Classic Physique stars such as Arnold Classic Ohio and UK champion Wesley Vissers, Urs Kalecinski, and Brazil’s Ramon Rocha Queiroz, all of whom are established talents at the peak of their game.
The future looks promising for Sam Sulek and the IFBB Pro League’s Classic Physique division. Fans eagerly anticipate Sulek’s journey into the Pro ranks as he continues to document his progress.
