Brian Shaw Reveals 2024 Strongest Man on Earth Events
In 2024, the Strongest Man on Earth competition emerges as the latest installment of the Men’s Pro division, previously recognized as the Shaw Classic. Also, Despite its new name – the competition maintains its legacy and continuity within the strongman community.
The catalyst for this name change traces back to 2023 when Brian Shaw secured the rights to the coveted title of “Strongest Man on Earth.” Consequently, the 2024 event stands as the inaugural edition of Shaw’s competition officially carrying the esteemed designation.
“We have got a few questions about whether it is officially the ‘Strongest Man on Earth’ or the Shaw Classic… The Shaw Classic is the entire weekend.
‘The Strongest Man on Earth’ is the pro men’s contest that happens at the Shaw Classic.”
Max Deadlift : Event 1
At the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth competition, the Max Deadlift takes the spotlight as the opening event. Brian Shaw, in a departure from the norm, has decided to begin the competition with this raw display of strength.
Moreover, in the Max Deadlift event, competitors must adhere to strict rules set by event organizer Brian Shaw. Additionally, they can only utilize a lifting belt and standard lifting straps, as the use of figure-eight straps is expressly prohibited for this competition.
“There will be no deadlift suits allowed… When it comes to Strongman, it really is the wild west with supportive gear. If you do the deadlift, you’ll see the athletes come out in a single-ply suit up to a triple-ply suit… It is really taking away from the deadlift.
I want to see what the competitors are capable of with a (raw) max deadlift… The guys will be able to call their weights. We are not going to have pre-set weight jumps for them to do.”
Overhead Medley
The 2024 Strongest Man on Earth introduces a challenging Overhead Medley as its second event. Athletes will not only be required to perform overhead presses with various implements such as logs and axles but also transition between them seamlessly. This complex task demands both raw strength and efficient movement execution from the competitors.
“We are having some new implements made there that we will be able to showcase as well.”
Power Medley
Brian Shaw finds the preliminary outline of the Power Medley event intriguing, even though its complete format remains undetermined. He anticipates that the competition will entail dynamic components and emphasize the importance of grip strength. In Shaw’s view, these fundamental elements promise to deliver an entertaining spectacle for spectators, leading him to conclude, “it should be fun to watch.”
The Manhood Stones
The Manhood Stones event at the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth introduces a unique twist to the Atlas Stones format. Athletes will face multiple stones and choose which to lift. The one lifting the heaviest stone gains the upper hand. If they lift stones of equal weight, the total reps become decisive. Notably, a massive 600-pound (272.2 kilograms) stone adds to the challenge.
“This is an event that I asked for a number of years ago, and it never happened. Now, with me not competing, this is a great opportunity to plug this in. If you are stronger at lifting stones, you are going to get rewarded… In the contest, we want to showcase strength.”
Circus Dumbbell Overhead Medley
The format of this event has been utilized in other elite competitions, yet it remains one of the most thrilling tests of strength. Moreover, Athletes must tackle a series of progressively heavier weights, each requiring an overhead press with one arm to complete.
Keg Toss
In previous years, the Shaw Classic featured the bag toss event. However, the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth introduces the Keg Toss. Athletes will aim to throw a keg over a high beam, with a unique twist: the beam’s height increases after each throw, a novel feature in major Strongman competitions. Notably, Brian Shaw’s commitment to innovation in the sport is evident in this new addition.
Furthermore, Shaw offers athletes a chance to break the Keg Toss World Record, currently held by him. He hopes a competitor surpasses his record as the bar rises. For context, Shaw set the record at the 2021 World’s Strongest Man by launching a 15-kilogram (33.1-pound) keg over a 7.75-meter high beam.
Squat
Although the squat is a formidable test of strength, it’s rarely showcased in top-level Strongman competitions. Brian Shaw aims to change that by including it in the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth.
Shaw and his team are currently developing a specialized setup for the event. While the exact design remains undecided, it will focus on the fundamental squat motion, offering competitors a unique challenge.
“We are going to build a new squat setup for this contest. It is going to be incredible!”
Fingal’s Fingers x Power Stairs Medley
The concluding event of the competition will be the Fingal’s Fingers x Power Stairs Medley, reprising its role from the entertaining finale of the 2023 Shaw Classic. Also, Brian Shaw’s decision to reintroduce it for the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth reflects its popularity and excitement.
To tackle this event, athletes must first flip over multiple heavy metal beams, referred to as Fingal’s Fingers. Following this, they proceed to a flight of stairs, where they must carry several extremely heavy implements, adding a challenging dynamic to the competition’s climax.
“I really and truly feel that this list of events is an incredible test of strength. I think that, within those events, we are going to see the Strongest Man on Earth win this contest, without a doubt.”
