RX’d
First, perform as Many Rounds and Reps as Possible in 20 minutes of:
- 300-meter row
- 10 deadlifts
- 50 double-unders Men’s deadlift weight: 185 pounds (83 kilograms) Women’s deadlift weight: 125 pounds (56 kilograms)
Scaled
Secondly, complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
- 300-meter row
- 10 deadlifts
- 50 single-unders
Men’s deadlift weight: 135 pounds (61 kilograms)
Women’s deadlift weight: 95 pounds (43 kilograms)
Foundations
Thirdly, complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
- 30 strokes on the rower
- 10 deadlifts
- 50 single-unders or jumping jacks
Men’s deadlift weight: 75 pounds (34 kilograms)
Women’s deadlift weight: 55 pounds (25 kilograms)

The Duel
The first duel of the 2024 CrossFit Open featured an intense matchup between Justin Medeiros and Colten Mertens. Moreover, Medeiros, a two-time CrossFit Games champion, faced off against Mertens, who overcame health challenges to excel in the sport.
Medeiros has proven himself as a dominant force in CrossFit, clinching victory at the CrossFit Games in 2021 and 2022. Additionally, he showcased his prowess at the Rogue Invitational during those years, solidifying his status as a top athlete. Despite a challenging 2023 season, Medeiros remains determined to reclaim his titles in the upcoming events.
On the other side, Mertens has demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming setbacks to compete at a high level. Diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder in 2023, Mertens persevered and achieved notable success, finishing 18th at the CrossFit Games that year. Now, he aims to make 2024 even more successful.
During the duel, Medeiros held a height advantage over Mertens, giving him an edge on the row machine. Despite Mertens’ efforts to catch up on the deadlifts or double-unders, Medeiros maintained his lead. Both athletes displayed extraordinary endurance throughout the 20-minute challenge.
Despite the intense competition, both Medeiros and Mertens remained focused, pushing themselves to the limit without rest. In the end, Medeiros secured 926 repetitions, while Mertens tallied 922. The duel showcased the determination and skill of both athletes in the 2024 CrossFit Open.
