For years, deadlifting half a ton seemed impossible, until Eddie Hall shattered expectations. Yet, this monumental feat remains rare, with only a select few athletes achieving it. Among them is Ventsislav Dimitrov, who recently shared a video on Instagram showcasing his 505-kilogram (1,113.3-pound) deadlift at the 2023 Eisenhart Black Competition on December 2nd.
Executing this colossal lift involved loading weights onto a specialized deadlift barbell. Sporting lifting straps and adopting a sumo stance, Dimitrov pulled the slack from the barbell, swiftly lifting the weights from the floor. Weighing around 100 kilograms at the time, his deadlift amounted to an impressive five times his body weight.
“505 Not that hard to be honest that being said floor needs to make some gains”
Despite surpassing Hafthor Bjornsson’s All-Time World Record of 501 kilograms (1,104.5 pounds), Dimitrov didn’t secure the record officially. The simultaneous use of a sumo stance and lifting straps violates rules in both Powerlifting and Strongman. Powerlifting allows sumo but not straps, while Strongmen can use straps but can’t employ a sumo stance.
To claim the record legitimately, Dimitrov faces a choice: strengthen his grip or switch to a conventional stance. This isn’t far-fetched, as powerlifters like Danny Grigsby have achieved massive deadlifts without straps.
Similar to Dimitrov, powerlifter Jamal Browner reached a remarkable 500 kilograms (1,102.3 pounds) in a training session. Attempting 505 kilograms (1,113.3 pounds) multiple times, Browner has yet to succeed.
Dimitrov’s competition history is limited, with only two sanctioned powerlifting appearances. However, in both instances, he emerged victorious.
