Missy Truscott, a fitness figure, shares a health update after sustaining injury at the 2023 Mr. Olympia event. In a recent YouTube video posted on November 12, Truscott reveals two meniscus tears and an ACL tear from her stage performance.
“Hey guys I just wanted to come on here and give you an update about everything that’s been going on. So, this week I’ve had excruciating pain in my quad obviously and my knee, and I was really worried that I potentially tore my quad as well as blowing out my knee,” revealed Truscott.
Truscott, the then-defending Fitness Olympia champion, seemed on track for another remarkable victory during prejudging at the sport’s grandest showcase. However, during an individual routine, she encountered an unfortunate injury that prevented her from continuing. Consequently, one of Truscott’s longstanding rivals, Oksana Grishina, seized the opportunity and reclaimed her crown, marking her fifth Fitness Olympia title.
However, despite the setback, the event proved successful overall. Moreover, Taylor Learmont and Jaclyn Baker secured second and third places, respectively, guaranteeing them spots in the highly anticipated 2024 Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After undergoing an MRI on her legs, Truscott’s surgeon disclosed the unfortunate news of two meniscus tears on both sides and a torn ACL.
“I had an MRI this week and yesterday met with my surgeon and he has informed me that I have torn meniscus on both sides, so two torn meniscus, and a torn ACL.”
At first, the bodybuilding champion was concerned about a quad tear, but fortunately, her worries proved to be unfounded.
“The quad is intact, so I’m extremely happy about that. I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel here. My surgeon is very confident I’m going to make a full recovery it’s just going to take some time. I have my prehab scheduled, we have the surgery in the near future and then I have my post-op rehab scheduled as well. It’s going to be a tough road here but I’m ready to do it. I’m ready for surgery to get back to the stage and be even better,” said Missy Truscott.

Despite the setback, Missy remained in good spirits during the health update video. However, an issue arose when Whitney Jones decided to incorporate a shark prop into her 2023 Fitness Olympia routine, a choice perceived by Truscott as a slight, considering it mirrored her own routine from 2022.
“I am in good spirits right now. But I want touch on something, about Whitney Jones using the shark prop in her fitness routine. It was extremely petty in my opinion. You wouldn’t see Chris Bumstead bringing a dinosaur to the press conference or Derek Lunsford bring a wolf to the press conference. I think it’s really beneath a champion to do something like that.”
“Although guys, it is just a Fitness routine, it’s – I think she tried to take a shot at me and totally missed. I guess we have a rivalry, I didn’t know that but okay. So it is what is it there guys. I’m over it. The only thing I’m disappointed in is the fact that I didn’t get to whoop her ass because I was doing that as you guys saw at prejudge in the physique round.”
“I’ve made a career out of bodybuilding and I’m so excited to see that the IFBB Fitness division is growing. We have a lot of really talented women coming into the sport and I’m just super excited to see this year how much it’s going to grow. I’ll be healing up so I can come back better than ever.”
Ultimately, Missy Truscott extended her appreciation to athlete representative Bob Cicherillo for his prompt assistance upon witnessing her on-stage injury.

“[Thanks to] Bob Cicherillo for making sure I was okay. Bob jumped into action right away when I was on stage. He knew that I was hurt. That it wasn’t just a fall. So thank you, Bob, I really appreciate you and everyone who has reached out already.”
