Bodybuilder Regan Grimes is pushing his training to new heights in preparation for the 2023 competitive season. As an IFBB Pro bodybuilder, Grimes competes in the Men’s Open division and has had notable success in recent years. Despite finishing in fifteenth place in his Olympia debut in 2021, Grimes achieved strong performances in the 2021 Legion Sports Fest Pro and the 2021 Egypt KO Pro, placing second and first, respectively. Despite earning direct qualification for the 2022 Mr. Olympia following his victory at the 2021 Egypt KO Pro, Grimes decided to withdraw from the competition to focus on improving his physique. Since then, Grimes has taken a hiatus from competition and is working tirelessly to take his career to new heights. Regan Grimes’ Leg Workout: Pushing Limits and Challenging the Body
The 29-year-old bodybuilder, Regan Grimes, has been dedicating himself to improving his physique after making the tough decision to skip the 2022 Mr. Olympia competition. In the opening moments of a video posted on his personal YouTube channel, Grimes expressed that he has been making steady progress by incorporating new exercises into his training regimen. However, he also emphasized that he is taking his time and not rushing his return to the competitive stage. He estimates that it will be at least 16 weeks before he competes in a professional bodybuilding show.
“We’re looking at 16 weeks plus! I’ve not given away completely yet what I’m doing but I will say that it is further than sixteen weeks away. So I’m getting excited, super happy with the exercises that I’ve added from taking this long off-season. So yeah, it’s going to be a good year…” Grimes shared.
Veteran bodybuilder Milos Sarcev, who was guiding Grimes through his latest training session at the Torture gym in Las Vegas, noted that this was Grimes’ first workout at the gym. “This is the very first workout and you’re gonna have to be true to the name (Torture). I’m gonna torture him and I’m not gonna hurt him. I’m super excited,” Sarcev stated before instructing Grimes to start the session. He then guided Grimes through the intense leg workout.

Regan Grimes’ Power Pair: Leg Extensions and Lying Leg Curls for Quadriceps and Hamstrings
At the Torture gym in Las Vegas, Regan Grimes, a prominent bodybuilder, embarked on his training session with a superset designed to target his quadriceps and hamstrings. This dynamic combination consisted of leg extensions, which isolate the quadriceps and serve to warm up the knee joints, followed by lying leg curls, the most widely recognized variation of leg curls that target the hamstrings and also warm up the knee joints. It should be noted, however, that this particular variation of leg curls places significantly less stress on the knee joints. Grimes executed multiple sets of these exercises to properly warm up his lower body before advancing to more demanding compound movements.
Regan Grimes’ Lower Body Giant Set: Horizontal Leg Press, Linear Hack Squats, Machine Squats, and Leg Extensions
Under the watchful guidance of veteran bodybuilder Milos Sarcev, Regan Grimes tackled a punishing superset intended to target his quadriceps through compound movements. Sarcev, who had earlier expressed his excitement about putting Grimes through a rigorous workout, instructed his protege to perform these exercises with painstakingly slow movements to fully engage the quads and to approach the pain in a constructive manner. The grueling superset included a horizontal leg press, a triple extension compound movement that simultaneously involves the hips, knees, and ankle plantar flexion, working all the lower body muscles with minimal impact on the lower back.
Additionally, the remaining two compound movements in the superset, machine squats and linear hack squats, offer comparable benefits, working the lower body muscles from various angles and positions. Finally, the giant set concluded with leg extensions, which add extra emphasis to the quadriceps. Throughout this brutal workout, Regan Grimes demonstrated his mental fortitude and physical prowess while under Sarcev’s tutelage.

Lower Body Giant Set: Hack Squats, Leg Press, and Partial Machine Squats
After completing the previous superset, Grimes moved on to the next one, which consisted of three different compound movements. The first exercise was the standing calf raise, which is a single joint exercise that focuses on the gastrocnemius muscle of the calf. The second exercise was the angled leg press, which is a variation of the horizontal leg press and puts more emphasis on the quads. The final exercise in the superset was the seated leg curl, which is a variation of the lying leg curl that targets the hamstrings. After this grueling set, Grimes went back to doing some quad work with the leg extension exercise.
Lower Body Workout: A Combination of Giant Sets and Supersets
Milos Sarcev next instructed Regan Grimes to do these exercises to work the lower body further. However, instead of Performing regular reps, he guided the Canadian bodybuilder to do these exercises with extremely slow motion. He also ensured that Grimes held the position at the top of the rep to keep the muscles under tension for longer duration.
Lower Body Workout: A Hamstring-Focused Giant Set
Regan Grimes concluded his leg workout with a high-intensity, hamstring-focused giant set, according to sources. The fitness enthusiast initiated this intense regimen with machine Romanian deadlifts, a potent exercise that works the entire posterior chain of muscles while specifically targeting the hamstrings. Grimes subsequently moved on to lying leg curls, an exercise that provides further stimulation to the hamstrings. Finally, he performed the horizontal leg press, which can effectively isolate the hamstrings. After performing all the sets in rapid succession, Grimes brought his leg day to a close, having successfully challenged his lower body to its limits.
