Joey Swoll, a prominent advocate for positive gym environments, recently addressed a troubling incident on Instagram. Joey Swoll criticizes a woman who publicly shamed a man for a perceived error while spotting her during squats.
“This man is nice enough to help you and you reward him by making fun of him on social media.”
Swoll has relentlessly pursued his mission to eliminate “toxic gym culture,” striving to create a safe and judgment-free environment for all individuals to work out. Along the way, Swoll has garnered a sizable following on social media, where he inadvertently assumed the role of the “gym police.”

Joey Swoll Criticizes Woman for Shaming Man During Squat Spot
Joey Swoll finds fulfillment in making a positive impact, yet he laments the necessity of reminding others to practice kindness. Often, individuals prioritize seeking views and likes on social media, even if it means hurting or humiliating others. This was evident in Swoll’s recent Instagram video, where he rebuked a woman for shaming a man who incorrectly spotted her during squats.
“So you ask this man to spot you while squatting. He is nice enough to say yes and then you go and post this video to social media to make fun of him because he doesn’t spot you the right way?”
“And then you further try to embarrass him, make yourself look good by saying he had the audacity to ask you for your phone number, seriously?”
“Did you tell him beforehand that hey I’m going to film this and if you don’t spot me the right way I am going to post this online and make fun of you?”
Joey Swoll highlights that the man was indeed spotting her improperly. However, he underscores that she should have halted the movement immediately if it posed a risk of injury. Instead, she opted to ridicule him on social media rather than offering constructive feedback on his mistake and how to correct it.
“Now granted he doesn’t spot you the right way but you can see that in the first two reps and keep going so if you were really concerned about getting hurt you would’ve stopped.”
“It is uncomfortable enough to spot somebody the right way let alone a stranger of the opposite sex. So teach him, show him, but no you’d rather post a video on social media to make fun of him for likes and attention” Joey Swoll says.

Joey Swoll consistently denounces gym-goers who create inappropriate content in public fitness centers. This includes incidents such as a woman filming content for her OnlyFans account and another exposing herself in the presence of minors. Swoll took proactive measures, leading to the banning of two individuals who recorded a naked woman in the locker room.
Furthermore, efforts to enforce rules in fitness centers persist. Yet, challenges with rule-breakers remain. However, advocates like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Joey Swoll offer hope. They promote gym etiquette and hold others accountable
