In a world where physical prowess is celebrated, Joya Khairallah has gracefully stamped her authority. Claiming the 52-kilogram weight class title at the 2023 IPF World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic Championships, she also seized two coveted world records, asserting her dominant presence in powerlifting.

Romania Witnesses Powerlifting Brilliance

Hosted in Cluj Napoca, Romania, the 2023 IPF World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic Championships unveiled its splendors from August 24th. Just a few days into the competition, an array of awe-inspiring feats were on display. Yet, among them, Joya Khairallah’s brilliance was a beacon, setting the Junior IPF World Records in both the Deadlift and Total categories.

Competing fiercely in the raw division of the 52-kilogram category, Khairallah was in a league of her own. Other contenders tried to bridge the chasm, but by the culmination of events, it was clear Joya stood unparalleled.

Eyes on the Prize

Even with the division victory in sight, Khairallah’s gaze was transfixed on a bigger goal – eclipsing the Junior IPF World Record. The standing record, set by Giulia Grechi with a 182.5-kilogram deadlift, stood like a Goliath. Yet, with unwavering determination, Joya chose a mammoth 183.5-kilogram for her final deadlift. Employing a modestly narrow sumo stance coupled with a mixed grip and supported merely by a lifting belt, she hoisted the weight, battling through a fleeting moment of resistance. The roar of her triumph reverberated through the arena.

Journey Through the Championships

Representing the Lebanese spirit, Joya’s 2001 birth year adds an element of wonder to her impressive accolades. Her journey at the 2023 IPF World Juniors and Sub-Juniors Classic Championships, though, was peppered with both trials and triumphs. Two unsuccessful squat attempts did little to deter her spirits as she rebounded spectacularly in the bench press and deadlift events.
