Speegle and Morakinyo Showcase Strength in Impressive Performance on CrossFit Open Workout 23.3
The last workout of the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Open featured a triplet format, and athletes who completed the designated tasks within the specified timeframe were rewarded with additional challenges. The rewards included extra time, more difficult skills, and heavier weights to test their abilities even further. CrossFit Open Workout 23.3
The beginning of the workout consisted of a six-minute time cap for athletes to complete as many repetitions as possible

Takeaways from Individual Women’s Division in 23.3
Dani Speegle earns her first-ever Open workout victory in 23.3, giving her an extra $2,023 in prize money. This is a significant achievement for her, as her previous high finish in an Open workout was fourth place, which she achieved during workouts 20.2 and 21.4.
Brooke Wells came close to earning her second career Open workout victory in 23.3 but missed out by just 10 seconds. Despite this, she recorded her eighth top-10 finish and her third runner-up place in the Open.
Argentinian athlete Sasha Nieves placed third in 23.3, which is her best finish since winning 20.4 in 2020. She also has the distinction of having the best Open finish for a South American woman this year.
Emma Cary continued her strong performance in this year’s Open by recording her third top-10 finish in four workouts, bringing her total to five in her career. Mallory O’Brien also had a good showing, recording her third top-10 finish in the Open and eighth overall since 2021.
Danielle Brandon performed the workout as part of CrossFit’s live Open Announcement, finishing in 10:20. However, she retested the workout over the weekend and improved her time by over two minutes, finishing in 8:17 and placing ninth.
Annie Thorisdottir, a legendary CrossFit athlete, had her best Open workout finish since 2020, placing seventh in 23.3. This is her 28th top-10 finish in 59 career Open workouts, and she has finished in the top 20 in Open workouts 35 times throughout her career.
Key Observations from CrossFit Open Workout 23.3 for Men’s Individual Division
In the men’s division, Tola Morakinyo secured his first-ever Open workout victory with a remarkable time of 7:44. This is a significant improvement for Morakinyo, whose previous best Open workout finish was third place in 20.4. With this victory, he now boasts three top-five finishes in his Open career.
Canadian athlete Samuel Cournoyer secured a career-best finish in the Open by taking second place in the workout. Meanwhile, Jake Berman’s third-place finish is impressive, as he has consistently finished within the top 10 in Open workouts since 2017.
Jeffrey Adler’s 2023 Open campaign ended on a high note, as he secured his best workout finish by placing fifth in the 23.3 workout. This was Adler’s second top-10 finish in the Open, and he holds the distinction of being the only men’s athlete to finish in the top 100 in every workout of the competition.
In other results, the reigning Fittest Man on Earth®, Justin Medeiros, finished in 11th place, just one second behind Dallin Pepper. Ten-time Games champion Rich Froning also showed a strong performance in 23.3, finishing 22nd with a time of 8:46, his best workout finish in this year’s Open.
