William Bonac puts 2023 season on hold, aims to come back stronger at 2024 Arnold Classic

Following an unsatisfactory performance, Bonac is taking a break

Written By Tahir Malik

William Bonac is a bodybuilder who belongs to the elite group of athletes in the sport. With his impressive physique and achievements, he has become one of its biggest stars. However, fans won’t be able to witness his performances on stage for a while. In a post on his Instagram account on March 6, 2023, Bonac shared his reflections on his likely disappointing seventh-place finish at the 2023 Arnold Classic. He had entered the competition aiming for his third career title, something that only four other bodybuilders had accomplished in the event’s 34-year history. But instead of a victory, Bonac revealed that he won’t compete for the rest of 2023.

After a recent competition that did not meet his expectations, William Bonac has decided to take a break from the sport. Bonac is a two-time Arnold Classic champion, having won the prestigious bodybuilding event in 2018 and 2020. However, this year’s edition did not go as he had hoped, and he finished in seventh place. In an Instagram post on March 6, 2023, Bonac shared his disappointment about his performance and revealed his decision to skip all competitions for the rest of the year.

Before announcing his break from competition, William Bonac reviewed his impressive record at the Arnold Classic. In comparison to his contemporaries, it’s a nearly unmatched accomplishment for someone who has actually won the contest.

Here is a summary of Bonac’s history in the AC competition:

Arnold Classic History of Men’s Open (William Bonac)

  • 2018 — First place
  • 2019 — Runner-up
  • 2020 — First place
  • 2022 — Runner-up
  • 2023 — Seventh place

It’s worth noting that Bonac did not participate in the 2021 event due to unforeseen travel difficulties.

Here are the full results from the 2023 Arnold Classic:

William Bonac stated that he will be focusing on personal endeavors for the time being after his disappointing finish at the 2023 Arnold Classic. He noted that he needs time off his diet and that he will shift his focus to his family and other business besides bodybuilding.

Paragraph 2: Bonac’s decision not to compete means that he will not participate in the 2023 Mr. Olympia scheduled for early November. Since 2014, Bonac has competed in every Olympia, with his best result being a runner-up finish to champion Brandon Curry in 2019. As Bonac has never won the contest and finished in ninth place in the 2022 Olympia, he does not have automatic qualification for the 2023 contest. It appears that instead of pushing for a roster berth, he has decided to rest and refocus rather than commit to a rigorous training and nutrition plan in contest preparation.

Despite announcing his break from competing, Bonac made it clear that he has no plans to retire from bodybuilding. In fact, he’s already looking ahead to his return to the stage at the 2024 Arnold Classic. With two AC titles already under his belt, Bonac has his sights set on capturing his third championship and cementing his place among the sport’s greatest competitors. It remains to be seen how his time off will affect his performance, but fans of the sport will undoubtedly be eager to see the “The Conqueror” back in action in 2024.
