The former NBA star, in an earnest conversation with ET’s Nichelle Turner, shared his challenges and successes, revealing a recent milestone – a weight of 351 pounds, down from a pandemic peak of 401.

Dynamic Duo: O’Neal and Bryant

O’Neal’s NBA career spanned nearly two decades, during which he established himself as one of the most exceptional centers in the sport’s history. His partnership with the late Kobe Bryant remains etched in fans’ memories, forming one of the NBA’s most electrifying duos. Together, they led the Lakers to four championship victories, leaving an indelible mark on the game.

The Pandemic’s Unexpected Challenge

Like many, O’Neal faced unexpected challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. Limited movement and changing routines led to weight gain, pushing him to a concerning 401 pounds. Recognizing the need for change, O’Neal set a goal: 365 pounds. Adopting a rigorous training regimen of workouts four days a week, O’Neal surpassed even his own expectations, reaching 351 pounds, a testament to his unwavering determination and commitment.

O’Neal’s Astonishing Health Transformation: Shedding 55 Pounds with Proper Nutrition as he said “It’s All About Eating Right” 

In a revealing exclusive interview, Shaquille O’Neal divulged his extraordinary weight loss journey. Having lost a staggering 55 pounds, he underscored the paramount importance of a balanced diet, emphasizing, “It’s all about eating right.” O’Neal’s story not only illustrates his unwavering commitment to wellness but also offers motivation to others on a similar path.

“I’m probably gonna get between 315 and 330,” Shaq says. 

Setting audacious targets for himself, Shaq candidly discussed the beginnings of his weight gain journey and its impact on his self-perception. The reflection in the mirror began to shift his feelings about his own appearance.

“I was getting chubby and couldn’t even walk up the stairs. I didn’t like the way I looked in the mirror,” he admits. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna lose 20’ and then I was trying to lose 20.”

During a prior discussion with ET Online, O’Neal was forthright about the steps he embarked on to shed weight. He emphasized that gaining clarity on his dietary needs was pivotal, and that comprehension made his weight loss journey resonate more with his objectives.

“I got a couple people involved — it’s all about eating right. I got some blood work done, a friend of mine called me and said, ‘You’re fat,’ and she gave me this guy’s name, and he did some blood work, and you know, ’cause I was the athlete — I wasn’t a salad eater. I won’t pay attention to any of that. I don’t care about none of that,” Shaq said at the time. “I didn’t know what the difference between a carb and a protein, at 50 years old I never knew. So, he was saying you can’t do this, you can’t do that, more vegetables, my iron’s low. And once I just started changing those certain things, it dropped.”

Furthermore, O’Neal emphasized the significant role that supplements played in his daily regimen.

“Plus the supplements I’m taking, and the shakes I’m drinking, the weight just fell off. I’m not at 100 percent ninja mode yet. I’m still 75 percent.”
