The 2025 Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas delivered surprises, and one of the biggest came in the Men’s Open division when former champion Samson Dauda 🇳🇬 dropped to fourth place — just a year after winning the 2024 Olympia title. While Derek Lunsford 🇺🇸 reclaimed the Sandow trophy, Dauda’s unexpected finish drew attention and emotion across the bodybuilding world.
From the start of prejudging, Dauda looked like a strong contender among the top four — alongside Lunsford, Hadi Choopan 🇮🇷, and Andrew Jacked 🇬🇧. The battle was fierce, and though Dauda displayed impressive fullness and symmetry, the judges ultimately placed him fourth. Despite the setback, Dauda handled the result with remarkable humility and focus.
“This isn’t the end, it’s a chapter. The fire burns even brighter now.”

Samson Dauda Speaks on Fourth-Place Finish at 2025 Olympia: “It Hurts, This Isn’t the End”
These words captured Dauda’s mindset following the competition. Known for his consistent improvements and balanced aesthetics, Dauda has been one of the division’s most admired athletes since his Olympia debut in 2022. His rise was rapid — from a Top 10 finish in 2022 to third in 2023, and then winning the title in 2024. This year’s result may have stung, but it also reignited his competitive drive.
In a heartfelt message, Dauda reflected on his preparation and the pain of falling short of expectations:
“Sometimes doing everything right still doesn’t give you the result you hoped for.
We came in 4th this year at the Olympia. I won’t lie, it hurts. I listened, adjusted, and brought the best version of myself to the stage… leaner, sharper and in the best condition of my life. But in chasing perfection, I paid the price for not being the bigger version.”
Dauda’s words revealed the mindset of a true champion — someone who understands that progress is not always linear. His partnership with longtime coach Milos “The Mind” Sarcev has been central to his success, and together they have built a physique that blends size, structure, and stage charisma.
Reflecting on his journey, Dauda remained proud of what he and his team accomplished:
“Still, I hold my head high. Because what we achieved, what Mel and I built together, was something special. The journey, the growth, the resilience… that’s what defines a true athlete.”
Samson Dauda’s determination ensures that his story is far from over. As the 2025 season closes, he looks ahead to redemption in 2026 — motivated, focused, and ready to climb back to the top of the bodybuilding world.
