Ronnie Coleman, an indisputable legend in bodybuilding, holds a memorable record in the Men’s Open division. His awe-inspiring muscular physique and staggering strength feats during training sessions have etched his name in bodybuilding history. In a recent development, Coleman paired up with fitness influencer Jesse James West to guide him through the most rigorous chest workout West has ever experienced.

Coleman garnered attention in the late 90s as a Men’s Open competitor, thanks to his phenomenal muscle mass, size, and conditioning. His triumph over competitors like Flex Wheeler, Chris Cormier, and Lee Priest at the 1998 Mr. Olympia earned him his first Sandow trophy. The ‘King’ of bodybuilding then defended his title successfully and retired with an impressive tally of eight Mr. Olympia titles.

Unmatched Strength: Coleman’s Signature Lifts

What set Coleman apart were his remarkable weightlifting achievements during training. His feats, including an 800-lb squat for two reps and a 2,300-lb leg press, remain unsurpassed. Even after retiring from professional competition, Coleman’s passion for bodybuilding remains undiminished.

The King’s Predictions: Coleman on Future Champions

Coleman has recently shown support for former 212 Olympia champion Derek Lunsford, predicting his victory over 2022 Mr. Olympia Hadi Choopan in the upcoming event. Three months ago, Coleman praised Chris Bumstead’s physique as the best he has ever seen. In addition to Lunsford, Coleman has also endorsed 2023 Arnold Classic winner Samson Dauda as one of his top two contenders.

Recovery and Rehabilitation: Coleman’s Health Update

Over the years, Coleman’s intense training methods led to multiple injuries. However, he has found solace in stem cell therapy, which has shown positive results for pain management. Though Coleman reported that his mobility has not significantly improved, he expressed hope for the healing of his nerve damage in about two years.

Jay Cutler, a four-time Mr. Olympia and one of Coleman’s fierce competitors, recently praised the latter for his contribution to the Open class. Cutler believes that no other competitor has been able to achieve the high standard set by Coleman since his retirement.

Training with the Legend: Jesse James West’s Session with Coleman

Jesse James West, a fitness sensation, recently had the privilege of training under Coleman. Although Coleman initially intended to motivate West to set new personal records, West playfully pranked him by using fake weights. This echoes a similar prank West pulled on iconic Strongman Eddie Hall, faking a 675-lb deadlift.

In a new YouTube video, Ronnie Coleman was seen assisting Jesse James West through an arduous chest training session, only five days before West’s bodybuilding competition.

“Today, we’re going to see if I could survive his most intense chest workout,” said West. “What’s the secret to a big chest?”

“Heavy lifting,” said Coleman.

The chest workout included:

  • Flat Bench Press
  • Incline Bench Press/Barbell
  • Dumbbell Chest Press
  • Dumbbell Chest Fly
  • Seated dumbbell curls

The duo carried out their training at Coleman’s well-known gym, the very spot where Coleman himself trained for over 33 years. Recollecting his competition days, Coleman vividly remembered his 800-lb deadlift as his most memorable lift.

Strategizing the Final Week: Coleman’s Contest Prep

Shedding light on his pre-contest routine, Coleman revealed that he would lighten his training load one week before a contest. His regimen involved both barbells and dumbbells, dedicating a separate day for each. Among chest exercises, the flat bench remained his favorite. Coleman’s daily training duration was 45 minutes, and his nutrition strategy involved carb-depletion and carb-loading for Mr. Olympia contests, consuming an astounding 600 grams of protein daily.

The Contest Countdown: West’s Preparation for the Upcoming Competition

West is in the final stages of preparation for a bodybuilding contest. Just last week, he teamed up with four-time Men’s Physique Olympia champion Jeremy Buendia for an intense shoulder workout. Meanwhile, Ronnie Coleman announced a recent collaboration with Panatta Gym Equipment to establish a unique gym.
