At just 22 years old, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah made history by setting a new world record in the U73KG Clean & Jerk with a 201-kilogram (443.1-pound) lift at the 2023 Asian Games. Clearly, he isn’t just Indonesia’s top weightlifter. In fact, he’s now a global name. Notably, his performance in Hangzhou confirmed his place among the world’s best.

This year, the Asian Games held its 19th edition. Over two weeks, athletes from across the continent competed in dozens of sports. Among them, weightlifting stood out. Specifically, fans watched Rahmat closely. During his event, he delivered a flawless lift of 201 kilograms. As a result, he shattered the previous world record in the U73KG Clean & Jerk.

Interestingly, Rahmat used very minimal gear. He wore only a belt, knee sleeves, and wrist wraps. So, his record wasn’t due to any mechanical aid. For perspective, he also held the previous record. Last year, he lifted 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds) at the World Weightlifting Championships. Clearly, Rahmat is not just breaking records—he’s building a legacy.
