Natalie Richards, Weighing 57KG, Achieves Powerlifting Total of Over 500 Kilograms at Powerlifting America Nationals

Natalie Richards Makes History by Entering Record Territory.

Written By Tahir Malik

During the Powerlifting America (AMP) Classic Open Nationals held on Feb. 24-26, 2023, Natalie Richards made history for her weight class by breaking new ground. In a remarkable first-place National Championship performance, Richards achieved a raw total of 501.2 kilograms (1,105 pounds) and became the first-ever 57-kilogram powerlifter in AMP to surpass the 500-kilogram barrier.

As part of her groundbreaking total, Richards achieved an all-time raw competition-best deadlift of 221.3 kilograms (488 pounds). The impressive feat was accomplished with a mixed grip from a sumo stance, wearing only a lifting belt for the deadlift. Richards wore a belt and knee sleeves for her top squat and wrist wraps for her bench press. It is unclear from the angle of a clip featuring Richards’ lifts whether she was also wearing a belt on her press.

The International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) is the only major powerlifting organization that has a 57-kilogram category. According to the IPF’s database, the current raw all-time World Record total in the 57-kilogram division is 495.5 kilograms (1,092.4 pounds) held by France’s Jade Jacob, who achieved it at the 2022 European Classic Powerlifting Championships organized by the European Powerlifting Federation (EPF).

Although Richards’ new total does not officially surpass Jade’s on an IPF level, as her achievement did not occur under its jurisdiction, she remains the first-ever 57-kilogram powerlifter to achieve at least 500 kilograms on a sanctioned lifting platform.

\It’s worth noting that Marianna Gasparyan achieved a total of 552.5 kilograms at 56 kilograms at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation’s The Showdown in 2020.

Here is a summary of Richards’ all-time raw competition bests:

All-Time Raw Competition Bests of Natalie Richards in Powerlifting (57KG)

Natalie Richards, weighing 57 kilograms, holds impressive all-time raw competition bests. Her squat record is 178.5 kilograms (393.5 pounds), bench press record is 107.5 kilograms (237 pounds), deadlift record is 221.5 kilograms (488.3 pounds), and her total record is 501.2 kilograms (1,105 pounds).

According to Open Powerlifting, Richards has now won three consecutive contests, including her victory at the 2023 AMP Classic Open Nationals. The athlete competes in both Junior and Open competitions and has finished in first place in 10 out of her 12 career competitive appearances, failing to finish in first place only twice.

As per the caption on the post featuring Richards’ performance at the 2023 AMP Nationals, the athlete will be focusing on training for the 2023 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships. This event, which is scheduled for June 11-18, 2023, in Valletta, Malta, will be Richards’ IPF debut. If she can maintain her strength and perform well in the championship, Richards will likely earn a spot in the IPF World Record books this summer.
