By 2023, Michal’s switch to the NPC seemed to be a masterstroke. His stellar performance at the Empro Classic Pro Spain not only granted him victory but also secured his Olympia qualification. On stage, his unparalleled muscle mass and conditioning were impossible to overlook. Yet, success wasn’t always assured for this Slovakian titan. In 2022, he faced significant criticism over his conditioning at the Amateur Olympia Italy. Though he walked away with the IFBB Pro Card, the feedback was a clear sign that more work was needed.

Krizo’s journey continued with a mixture of highs and lows. His debut as a pro at the 2022 EVLS Prague Pro had its share of critiques but culminated in a victorious finish, earning him another shot at the Olympia. However, the 2022 Olympia painted a familiar narrative — he secured the twelfth spot in the Men’s Open division, with conditioning issues rearing their head again.

The Revamped Strategy: A 33-Year-Old’s Commitment to Excellence 

Undeterred by setbacks, the 33-year-old Krizo was resolute in his mission to enhance his physique. Integrating cardio, upping his training intensity, and refining his digestion were crucial steps in his blueprint for success. These efforts weren’t in vain. His renewed strategy manifested in his Empro Classic Pro victory, setting the stage for his anticipated return to the Olympia, where he aims to not just compete, but to dominate.

Michal Krizo’s Prep for 2023 Olympia: A Detailed Chest and Back Workout Breakdown

Building the Momentum Following his performance at the 2023 Empro Classic Pro, Michal Krizo moderated his training intensity, hitting the gym three to four times weekly. As August dawned, however, his sights were firmly set on the 2023 Olympia. Thus, he intensified his regimen to six training sessions a week, amplifying the rep volume to match his ambitious pursuits.

A Structured Approach to Mastery Merely 9.5 weeks out from the 2023 Olympia, Krizo undertook a rigorous chest and back workout. His strategy? Alternating between chest and back exercises, allowing each muscle group ample recovery time before the next set.

The Workout in Detail

Lat Pulldown:

Krizo kicks off with the lat pulldown, targeting the latissimus dorsi. It’s essential for broadening the back, and he pulls through multiple sets, ensuring that the lats receive a thorough workout.

Barbell Bench Press:

Transitioning to chest exercises, the barbell bench press takes center stage. This compound exercise focuses on the pectorals but also engages the anterior deltoids and triceps. With controlled reps and a focus on technique, Krizo uses this exercise to lay down the foundational muscle mass for his chest.

Incline Dumbbell Rows:

Krizo then moves to horizontal rowing movements. The incline dumbbell rows are his choice for adding depth and thickness to the back muscles. This exercise works on the middle and upper back, crucial for a well-defined and balanced back profile.

Incline Barbell Chest Press:

To sculpt the often-elusive upper chest, Krizo employs the incline barbell chest press. By changing the angle, the upper pectorals or the clavicular head of the pectoral muscles are engaged more, ensuring a well-rounded chest development.

Seated Cable Rows:

A versatile exercise, the seated cable rows target both the upper and mid-back muscles. Not just that, they have an added benefit of improving the upper body posture.

Pec Deck Flyes:

To end his intensive workout session, Krizo opts for the pec deck flyes. It’s a high-activation isolation exercise, focusing solely on the pectoral muscles, perfect for sculpting and refining the chest.
