The world of strongman sports felt a distinct void when Martins Licis, the reigning champion of the 2019 World’s Strongest Man and the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic, took a sabbatical. Opting for personal pursuits and delving into entrepreneurial ventures, including the flourishing “Strength Unknown” YouTube series, Licis’ hiatus raised many eyebrows. Martins Licis deadlifts 365kg, hinting at a possible comeback with a recent social media revelation.

Martins Licis Deadlifts 365kg Planning A Stronger Comeback

Broadcasting from the atmospheric Wreck It Gym in El Segundo, CA, Licis recently unveiled a tour de force of his athletic prowess. Through an Instagram reel, he was captured deadlifting a colossal 365 kilograms (804 pounds), and not just for a single rep – but three. Eschewing the traditional support gear like the deadlift suit and the ubiquitous weightlifting belt, Licis’ performance was raw power incarnate. Each repetition, initiated with his signature ‘rolling start’, was a testament to his unparalleled skill and strength.

“I promised [2023 World’s Strongest Man Mitchell Hooper] that if I could start repping this weight, it would be a good sign for me competing again next year,” Licis reflected earnestly in his post. This shared sentiment wasn’t merely a casual remark but a potent declaration. He added with palpable excitement, “So alright buddy, it looks like I’ll be back. Just gotta keep it slowly creepin’ up for the [Arnold] strongman classic and beyond. I’m excited!”

If one were to glance at the strongman sports calendar, the 2024 Arnold Strongman Classic, dated for Mar. 1-2, 2024, in Columbus, OH, looms large. The possibility of Licis marking his return, coupled with the defense from reigning champion Hooper, is tantalizing enough. Add to this mix, the Icelandic giant, Hafthor Bjornsson, a three-time ASC winner expressing aspirations of a return, and you have a recipe for one of the most awaited tournaments in recent memory. Although Bjornsson’s 2023 pec injury casts a shadow of uncertainty over his participation, the prospect remains thrilling.

Licis’ Imminent Endeavors and Challenges Ahead

Before 2024 arrives, Licis has commitments to fulfill. Moreover, donning the captaincy mantle for Team USA, he will be a key figure at the 2023 World’s Strongest Nation contest, marked for Nov. 18, 2023. Also, opposing his team will be the UK’s formidable side, captained by the 2017 WSM, Eddie Hall. Given Hall’s recent triumph at the 2022 WSN, this face-off promises to be an enthralling chapter in the strongman saga.

Overview

The 2019 World’s Strongest Man, Martins Licis, teased a return with an 804-pound deadlift on Instagram. Moreover, the 2024 Arnold Strongman Classic, featuring contenders like Mitchell Hooper and potentially Hafthor Bjornsson, is generating buzz. As Licis gears up for the 2023 World’s Strongest Nation contest, fans await the unfolding of these storylines with anticipation.
