On May 15, the 2025 World’s Strongest Man kicked off in Sacramento, California. For the opening event, athletes faced the Loading Event. Here, they had to lift 130 kilograms (287 pounds) onto the back of a truck as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, the event took a dangerous turn. A treacherous sandbag caused serious injuries on the arena floor. As a result, two athletes suffered biceps tears during the competition.
Specifically, Luke Richardson from Group Four and Evan Singleton from Group Five were affected. Because of their injuries, both were forced to withdraw from the contest. This shocked fans and competitors alike.
Moving forward, the withdrawals shifted the competition’s landscape. The remaining athletes now face a tougher path to the title. Meanwhile, fans watch closely as the battle continues without two top contenders.

Luke Richardson and Evan Singleton Stun Fans with 2025 World’s Strongest Man Exit
Richardson and Singleton injured their biceps on the third of four sandbags. Specifically, Richardson tore his right biceps, while Singleton injured his left. Interestingly, Richardson showed no pain on his face but acted like he knew he had re-injured an old muscle. Meanwhile, Singleton’s face and body language clearly showed agony. Medical personnel quickly escorted him off the stage to the athlete holding area.
For years, Richardson has battled injuries. In fact, he withdrew from the 2021 World’s Strongest Man with a torn biceps. Moreover, his surgeries have left him £40,000 in debt, according to his Instagram. Despite these struggles, he seemed fully recovered. Just last month, he won the 2025 Europe’s Strongest Man title.
However, his 2025 World’s Strongest Man run ended abruptly. This injury forced him to withdraw early from the competition. For a competitor with such history, it was a tough setback.
Similarly, Singleton has faced his own hurdles. In 2022, he withdrew from the WSM after suffering anaphylactic shock. Remarkably, he returned less than a day later to finish last in his group. This year, however, his injury means another early exit.
