Larry Wheels Announces Plan to Compete in Classic Physique Category in 2023
Larry Wheels Takes a Break from Bulking Up
Larry “Wheels” Williams has established himself as a formidable athlete across multiple strength sports throughout the years. He has excelled as a powerlifter, dabbled in strongman competitions, and even ventured into bodybuilding with a strict diet and training regimen. Now, Wheels is turning his attention towards bodybuilding once again and plans to compete in the Classic Physique division in 2023.
In an interview with RxMuscle on March 9, 2023, Wheels confirmed that he will be preparing for the Classic Physique division in the upcoming year. He had previously participated in the Men’s Open category, but now has his sights set on this new challenge. A recent post on his personal Instagram page further confirmed these plans, with Wheels stating that he has started his preparation for the competition.Larry Wheels Sets
Sights on Classic Physique Division for 2023 Competition
According to NPC News Online, Larry Wheels’ last bodybuilding competition was the 2021 National Physique Committee (NPC) Mid-Florida Classic, where he placed first in the Men’s Open category. However, after recent health developments, Wheels is shifting his focus to the Classic Physique category for his next competition.
Wheels has made significant changes to his health and fitness regimen, including transitioning from steroid use to Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and recovering from a back injury that prevented him from competing in the summer of 2022. Additionally, he has some exciting developments in his personal life that have influenced his decision to place a greater emphasis on his health and well-being.
Given these factors, competing in the Classic Physique category makes sense for Wheels. This category places less emphasis on sheer muscle size and instead prioritizes a balanced, aesthetic physique. With his experience in bodybuilding and dedication to his health, Wheels is sure to make a strong showing in this division.
Although Larry Wheels is not planning to slow down, he is shifting his focus to a more practical and sustainable approach to achieving his fitness goals. Transitioning to the Classic Physique division is a part of this mission.
As a 6-foot-1 athlete, Wheels recognizes that his physical dimensions make it difficult for him to compete in the Men’s Open category, where larger physiques are typically rewarded. Additionally, he acknowledges that pushing his body to the limit in powerlifting or strongman competitions may not be the best course of action for his long-term health.
In contrast, the Classic Physique division places less emphasis on sheer mass and instead focuses on a balanced and aesthetic physique. As such, Wheels believes that he can be competitive in this division while also maintaining a healthier lifestyle. He feels that he is already as big as he needs to be for this category and can potentially have more longevity in this discipline.
Wheels is also mindful of his personal life, with recent engagement and plans to start a family. His decision to prioritize his health and well-being reflects a more sustainable approach to his athletic career.
