On a day imbued with significance, the grounds of Struthers, OH, echoed with the roar of history being written. The 2023 Ohio’s Strongest contest, held on August 19th, became the backdrop for a display of sheer might and determination. Strongwoman Kira Wrixson, competing in the Under-64-kilogram category, etched her name in the annals of strength sports with an astonishing 18-inch deadlift of 385.5-kilogram (850 pounds), a feat believed to set a new world record.

Kira Wrixson achieved 385.5-Kilogram Deadlift
The stiff bar, poised on boxes and armored with the oversized “wagon wheel” plates, awaited Wrixson. With her “figure eight”-style lifting straps securely fastened, she took a moment, perhaps to commune with the bar or to summon her internal reserves. In a seamless display of power, Wrixson hoisted the weight, culminating in a lockout that drew an uproarious affirmation from the gathered spectators. Ensuring her safety, she was equipped with a weightlifting belt and a deadlift suit.
“World Record.” Both Wrixson and the promoters of Ohio’s Strongest unanimously declared this. Colosseum Strength, a respected source in the strength community, conducted thorough research and found no prior lift of this magnitude in the Under-64KG strongwoman category. Wrixson’s lift now stands poised to be recognized as the heaviest documented 18-inch deadlift in her weight class, unless other organizations can contest it with documented evidence.
The day didn’t solely revolve around Wrixson’s groundbreaking deadlift. Earlier, she showcased her prowess with a Circus Dumbbell lift of 62.9 kilograms (138.8 pounds). Once again, claims of a world record emerged, and none could refute them. Interestingly, the contest didn’t only feature elite strongwomen. An amateur contest took place alongside, though Wrixson exclusively participated in the record-setting segment.
However, amidst the applause and records, the 4th Annual Ohio’s Strongest Competition carried a poignant significance. The event served as a heartfelt tribute to Nora Sabella, affectionately known as the “Warrior Princess”. Despite being just nine years old, she battled cancer three times in her short life, enduring five years of treatment before her untimely departure. Wrixson’s awe-inspiring deadlift also fueled a noble cause: every pound she lifted activated a 50-cent donation.
