Jay Cutler, a distinguished figure in the world of bodybuilding and a four-time Mr. Olympia winner, has long captivated fitness enthusiasts around the globe. Over the years, he has meticulously honed his approach to training and nutrition. In a recent video on YouTube, Cutler provides a candid look into the changes in his training methods and preferences since his departure from professional bodybuilding.

A Decade After Retirement: The Persistence of Cutler

While Jay stepped away from competitive bodybuilding nearly a decade ago, his commitment to fitness has not wavered. His ‘Fit for 50’ initiative, undertaken in anticipation of his milestone birthday, underscores the evolution of his fitness goals. Where once he was driven by the continuous gain of muscle mass, Cutler’s objectives now center around maintaining his physique and ensuring overall well-being.

From Disdain to Delight: Cutler’s Changing Stance on Arm Workouts

In the prime of his professional career, every aspect of Jay’s training was designed for optimal muscle growth. However, as time has progressed, his focus has shifted more towards conditioning. Interestingly, Cutler admits that arm workouts, which he didn’t particularly enjoy during his Olympia reign, have now grown on him. As he refines his muscle conditioning, it’s clear that Cutler’s relationship with training has evolved, embracing routines he once avoided.

“I always talk about arms and how I hate training arms, believe it or not, it’s become one of my favorite body parts to train because I’m actually starting to feel the movements a lot more,” Cutler said.

Cutler’s Reflections: From Heavy Lifting to Striking the Right Balance

As Jay Cutler reminisces about his bodybuilding journey, he acknowledges the significant changes in his approach to training, especially concerning arm workouts. In his heyday, Cutler’s regimen for arm exercises prioritized lifting heavy, employing forceful movements to achieve the pinnacle of muscle size. With his monumental physique then, size was paramount. However, as any seasoned bodybuilder knows, it’s not just about size. Achieving a low body fat percentage is indispensable, ensuring the distinct display of muscle fibers and the intricacy of vascularity.

From ‘Quadstomp’ to Today: Cutler’s Favored Workouts

The world recognizes Cutler, not only for his accolades but for his iconic ‘Quadstomp’. Reflecting on his training preferences, Cutler reveals that during his apex years in competition, he had a penchant for training his back and legs. These muscle groups were not chosen merely for the love of it; they were pivotal in presenting a dominating physique on the bodybuilding stage. Contrary to the popular belief of always lifting heavy, Cutler clarifies that while he never went for extreme weights, his intensity in training was unparalleled, shaping him into the titan of mass he became.

“Remember at a heavier body weight, I was throwing so much weight. I was always trying to get bigger and bigger arms. Now it’s more about conditioning. It’s not only about size, I’ve actually enjoyed training the bi’s and tri’s I tend to train those together. But I would also say I still enjoy doing the favorites when I was winning, and that was back and legs.”
