Jay Cutler offered a dose of realism when asked about Shaun Clarida plan to potentially compete in two-division at the 2026 Mr. Olympia. He acknowledged Clarida’s rare position. He also made clear that the challenge goes far beyond qualification.

Next, Cutler focused on the physical demands of peaking. He emphasized that bodybuilding is not just about size or talent. It is about timing, recovery, and precision. Attempting to peak twice in one weekend, he suggested, pushes the limits of what the body can tolerate.

Then, Cutler addressed the logistical side of Olympia weekend. The schedule matters. The order of prejudging and finals matters. Clarida would need to arrive depleted, full, sharp, and mentally locked in — not once, but twice.

Finally, Cutler framed the situation as a choice rather than an opportunity. Even if Clarida is allowed to do both divisions, Cutler implied that the smartest move might be committing fully to one stage instead of splitting focus.

Jay Cutler Weighs In on Shaun Clarida and the Two-Division Olympia Question

Jay cutler talks:

“I don’t know for legality reasons if that would even be okay.”

Cutler first questioned whether the Olympia would formally allow an athlete to compete in two divisions during the same weekend.

“You’re peaking for two shows on two different days.”

Here, Cutler shifted to the physical reality. Peaking once is hard enough. Peaking twice raises the risk dramatically.

“You’re depleted. You’re dehydrated. I don’t know how that would work.”

This line captured his central concern. Clarida would have to manage extreme conditioning while still performing at a championship level.

Meanwhile, Shaun Clarida occupies rare ground in modern bodybuilding. He owns a lifetime qualification in the 212 division 🥇🇺🇸. He also earned Open qualification after winning an Open professional show. Very few athletes ever hold both options at the same time.

However, Cutler reminded fans that history offers limited examples. While a few athletes have competed in multiple divisions in the past, the modern Olympia has grown more demanding. The level of conditioning required today leaves little room for experimentation.

“I think they just let them pick one or the other.”

With that statement, Cutler made his position clear. Qualification does not always mean obligation. Strategy matters as much as ambition.

Why Cutler’s Opinion Carries Weight

Importantly, Jay Cutler speaks from experience at the highest level. As a four-time Mr. Olympia 🥇🇺🇸, he understands what it takes to arrive onstage perfect — not just competitive. His caution reflects the realities faced by elite athletes chasing marginal gains.

Clarida’s size, density, and conditioning allow him to compete above his weight class. Still, Cutler suggested that even exceptional athletes must respect recovery, health, and timing. Olympia titles rarely reward divided focus.

“He could just decide to do the Open and not do the 212.”

That line underscored the central theme: choice, not capability, may decide Clarida’s next move.

Overview

In the end, Jay Cutler framed Shaun Clarida’s 2026 Olympia situation as both rare and risky. Clarida has earned the right to consider two divisions — a testament to his talent and consistency 🇺🇸. Yet Cutler cautioned that peaking twice in one weekend strains the body and complicates execution. His message was clear: Clarida may be able to do both, but greatness at the Olympia often comes from committing fully to one stage, one peak, and one moment.
