Former four-time Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, remains an ardent practitioner, engaging in seven-day-a-week workouts. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler meticulously guides viewers through an intense leg day workout at Gold’s Gym Venice, California, known as the West Coast Mecca of bodybuilding.

Cutler’s legacy extends beyond his rigorous training routine. Moreover, once a dominant force in the Men’s Open Pro category, he achieved a remarkable feat in 2006 by dethroning the eight-time Mr. Olympia champion Ronnie Coleman. Also, this victory, marked by a combination of fullness and conditioning, solidified Cutler’s place in bodybuilding history.

His illustrious career includes four Mr. Olympia titles, a notable rivalry with ‘The King’ Ronnie Coleman, and a unique achievement—being the only person to reclaim the Olympia crown. Furthermore, in 2009, Cutler secured a comeback victory, surpassing competitors like Dexter Jackson and Branch Warren.

Jay Cutler Pushes Through Painful Leg Day Workout At West Coast Mecca Gold’s Gym Venice

Explore the exercises included in Cutler’s challenging leg day routine:

  1. Machine Leg Curl: 2 sets, 13-15 reps
  2. Stiff Leg Deadlift: 3 sets, 8-10 reps
  3. Standing One Leg Curl: 2 sets, 12 reps
  4. Machine Lying Hamstring Curl: 2 sets, 7-10 reps
  5. Machine Leg Extensions: 3 sets, 15-16 reps
  6. Machine Vertical Leg Press: 3 sets, 13-15 reps
  7. Machine Leg Press: 3 sets, 10-12 reps
  8. Barbell Squats: 2 sets, 8-11 reps

Machine Leg Curl

First, Jay Cutler initiated his leg day workout with two sets of machine leg curls.

Stiff Leg Deadlift

In the second part of his leg day routine, Cutler persevered through stiff-legged deadlifts.

“Stiff-legged deadlifts, I’m going to do at least three sets here. I’m going to start with 60 pounds, 65 pounds, how’s that?” said Cutler. “A lot of days we’ve been here Dave. A lot of training at Gold’s Gym. Got a good pump already.” 

Standing One Leg Curl

Also, Cutler opted for two sets of standing one-leg curls, targeting 12 reps in each set.

“Alright, we’re just going to do two sets of this one-leg curl, going to focus on 12 reps for each leg.”

Machine Lying Hamstring Curl

Additionally, Cutler proceeded with two sets of machine-lying hamstring curls in his leg day routine.

Machine Leg Extensions

During leg extensions, Cutler maintained the weight at 90 pounds in his leg day routine.

“Get the blood going a little bit. I’m going to start with 90, not very much weight,” said Cutler. “Wow, that hurt.” 

Machine Vertical Leg Press

Furthermore, Cutler progressed to the machine vertical leg press, handling ‘three and a quarter’ plates in his leg day workout.

“Remember, I’m not counting [reps]. Every workout has been a little different since I cut back the volume. I’m kind of just going by what I feel. For me, we always say every day, as a bodybuilder you got to make those adjustments based on how tired we are.” 

“We’re starting with three and a quarter [plates], how’s that?” Cutler shared. “Easy work bro, easy shit,” 

Machine Leg press

Moreover, Cutler incorporated the machine leg press into his routine, appreciating its ability to maintain constant tension during the exercise.

“A lot of variations of this so the reps are kind of short, constant tension. I don’t know how many I did. I feel great, I feel good. Good pump. I’m judging all the workouts by the pump.”

Barbell Squats

Finally, before engaging in his final exercise, Cutler had a conversation with former Mr. Olympia Samir Bannout.

“Right now, it’s all about longevity and keeping the engine running,” Bannout tells Cutler. “I still got abs.” 

“We’re not going to go heavy on this, just engage everything,” added Cutler. 

Having successfully completed his ‘Fit-for-50’ challenge, Cutler not only maintains off-the-charts strength but also retains substantial muscle mass. Moreover, this achievement underscores his commitment to a fit and healthy lifestyle beyond his competitive years.

In retirement, Cutler remains a prominent figure in the bodybuilding community. Also, his recent leg day session serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication to fitness.
