The World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition is gearing up for its 2023 edition, with the final touches being implemented before the event. Among the latest additions to the roster of stars is Irish strongman Pa O’Dwyer, according to a post on the WSM organization’s Instagram page on April 3, 2023.

O’Dwyer’s Strongman Credentials

Pa O’Dwyer, a powerful Irishman, has been confirmed as a competitor in the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. O’Dwyer is best known for winning the 2018 UK’s Strongest Man title. In 2020, he competed in the WSM but failed to advance to the Finals.

O’Dwyer Joins 2023 World’s Strongest Man Roster After Europe’s Strongest Man

Pa O’Dwyer has been added to the roster of competitors for the 2023 World’s Strongest Man event, according to an announcement on the WSM organization’s Instagram page on April 3, 2023. O’Dwyer, a renowned Irish strongman, is not replacing anyone but is another confirmed addition following his performance in the 2023 Europe’s Strongest Man competition.

Pa O’Dwyer Joins 2023 WSM Roster Alongside Overhead Pressing Phenom and Reserves

Pa O’Dwyer is not the only addition to the 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition. Cheick “Iron Biby” Sanou, known for his impressive overhead pressing, is also set to make his WSM debut. Additionally, Thomas Evans and Kane Francis have been named as reserves. With these new additions, the roster for the 28-competitor event is nearly complete. However, the competition is expected to follow recent precedent and add two more athletes in the coming days to round out the field.

Pa O’Dwyer, the winner of the 2018 UK’s Strongest Man competition, has been confirmed as a competitor in the 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM). Although he failed to advance to the finals in his only other WSM appearance in 2020, he is eager to redeem himself this year. O’Dwyer’s addition to the roster comes after the announcement of Cheick “Iron Biby” Sanou making his WSM debut and the reveal of Thomas Evans and Kane Francis as reserves. With the competition just around the corner, the 28-competitor roster is nearly complete and is expected to add two more athletes in the coming days.

Last WSM Appearance for Brian Shaw and Mark Felix, Qualifying Round Groups to be Revealed on April 18th

Four-time WSM champion Brian Shaw and 18-time WSM competitor Mark Felix are both set to make their final competitive appearance at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. The qualifying round groups for the competition are set to be revealed on April 18, 2023, according to the WSM Instagram page. It is expected that there will be five groups consisting of six strongmen each, though this has not yet been confirmed.

2023 World’s Strongest Man Events

The events for the upcoming 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition have been announced, with five days of intense competition and a one-day break between the qualifying round and final on Friday, April 21, 2023. Here are the events that the strongmen will be battling it out in: Stage — Wednesday, April 19.

  • Event One — Loading Race
  • Event Two — Deadlift Machine
  • Event Three — Log Ladder

Qualifying Stage — Thursday, April 20

  • Event Four — Conan’s Wheel
  • Event Five — Kettlebell Toss
  • Event Six — Stone Off

Final — Saturday, April 22

  • Event One — Fingal’s Fingers
  • Event Two — KNAACK Deadlift
  • Event Three — Reign Shield Carry

Final — Sunday, April 23

  • Event Four — Max Dumbbell Press
  • Event Five — Vehicle Pull
  • Event Six — Atlas Stones

WSM 2023 to Feature Classic Events with Details to be Revealed Soon

The WSM organization has not disclosed the weight of implements or the precise format of each event for the upcoming 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition. However, it is expected that classic events, such as the Stone Off, will remain in the competition’s lineup. In the Stone Off, the second and third-place finishers from each Qualifying Round group battle it out in an Atlas Stones contest for a chance to qualify for the Finals.

Countdown Begins for the Final Appearance of Strongman Legends

The 2023 WSM will mark the last competitive appearance of Brian Shaw, a four-time champion, and Mark Felix, who has been participating in the competition since 2004. With their imminent departure, the strongman community is gearing up to bid farewell to these two legends of the sport.

2023 WSM Qualifying Round Groups to be Revealed

The official groups for the 2023 WSM Qualifying Round will be unveiled by the WSM organization on April 18, 2023, just one day before the competition begins. While the format is still unconfirmed, it is likely that the competition will feature five groups of six strongmen, as in previous years.
