Hugh Jackman is a celebrated performer with an extensive resume in both stage and film. Although he boasts a long list of credits on IMDb, his portrayal of Marvel’s Wolverine in the “X-Men” film series stands out as one of his most iconic roles. As Wolverine, also known as James Howlett, Logan, or Weapon X, is a powerful mutant with regenerative abilities, sharp claws, and unparalleled ferocity, an actor assuming this character must possess the necessary physique. For Jackman, this has never been an issue, as he once again prepares to embody the legendary character.

While details on the plot remain scarce, it has been confirmed that Jackman will star opposite Ryan Reynolds, who will be portraying the titular character, Deadpool. After portraying Marvel’s Wolverine for almost two decades across nine movies, Hugh Jackman had initially made peace with the decision to retire his “claws.” The actor, now 54, cited the physical toll the role had taken on his body as one of the reasons for stepping down. He revealed as much in an interview with CNN/HBO’s Chris Wallace on an early January 2023 episode of “Who’s Talking To Chris Wallace?” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As rumors swirled over the years that Jackman had taken steroids to achieve Wolverine’s trademark physicality, the actor has consistently denied such claims. In the same interview with Chris Wallace, Jackman clarified that he had developed the chiseled physique the “old school way.” However, as he gears up to play Wolverine again, Jackman has been hitting the gym hard and eating more chicken to fuel his training, according to recent updates.
Hugh Jackman has been teasing his return as Wolverine with sneak peeks of his intense workout routines on social media. In early February 2023, the actor posted an Instagram video of himself performing dumbbell bicep curls, the weight of which was undisclosed. Later that month, he shared a clip of himself tackling a seated leg press machine, quipping in the caption that his middle school French class was paying off. In March 2023, Jackman posted a black-and-white video of himself performing a weighted plank/ab slider exercise with a bumper plate on his back, simply stating in the caption, “If you’re looking for me, I’m becoming Wolverine again.”

His impressive physical performance in previous portrayals of the iconic superhero indicates that his rigorous gym routine is more than sufficient to achieve the desired results.
