Daniel Hernandez, a.k.a. 6ix9ine or Tekashi 69, has made a name for himself as a popular rapper known for his skills in the “SoundCloud rap” genre. However, on March 21st, he was reportedly savagely beaten by a group of men in the locker room of an LA Fitness gym in Florida, as shown in a video that has since gone viral.
Hernandez’s music career took off in 2017 with his first single, “Gummo,” and he went on to partner with high-profile artists such as Fetty Wap, Murda Beatz, and Nicki Minaj for subsequent releases. Despite criticism from some music critics, his debut album went platinum and reached second on the Billboard 200 charts.
Tekashi’s ascent to fame was not without controversy, however. He has faced several legal issues, including charges related to the sexual exploitation of a child in 2015, and was arrested on racketeering and firearms charges in 2018. The rapper was allegedly affiliated with the Nine Trey gang, a faction of the Bloods, and faced a potential life sentence.
In February 2019, Tekashi pleaded guilty to nine charges and faced up to 47 years in prison. He later received a reduced sentence after testifying against other gang members in related investigations, drawing criticism from some fans and fellow artists who labeled him a “rat” or “snitch” for turning on his associates.
