Erin Stern, a tour de force in the realm of American women’s bodybuilding, sprung from a family of athletes in Tampa, Florida. Fueled by her youthful passion for sports and weight training during her college years, Stern tread the path towards the Olympics. However, a near miss in qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics shifted her focus to bodybuilding, thus kick-starting a remarkable decade-long career.

A Stellar Debut 

Stern’s innate potential illuminated her path right from the start. In her inaugural contest at the 2008 NPC National Bodybuilding and Figure Championships, she swept the competition to emerge victorious. This triumphant entry laid the foundation for Stern’s future in the elite ranks of the IFBB Pro League.

Champion in the Making 

Stern quickly established herself as a formidable competitor, clinching the silver medal at the prestigious Arnold Classic in 2010 and 2011. However, her crowning glory came when she secured the coveted Figure Olympia title in 2010, a feat she replicated in 2012 by defeating former champion Nicole Wilkins. During this period, she also triumphed twice at the Valenti Classic Pro Figure.

Consistency is Key 

Between 2010 and 2013, Stern embodied the ideals of consistency and discipline. Never placing below third in any contest during these years, she made a powerful statement in the sport. Following her outing at the 2014 Australia Pro Grand Prix XIV, Stern decided to step away from the spotlight for over six years.

Return to the Stage 

The year 2020 heralded Stern’s return to action, but she opted for a different stage: the Women’s Bikini division. Her comeback journey was punctuated with significant wins, including a silver medal against Daraja Hill at the 2021 Republic of Texas Pro and her first victory in the new division at the 2021 Tahoe Show.

A Comeback Season to Remember 

Stern’s comeback season proved to be nothing short of a spectacle. With a runner-up finish at the 2022 Miami Muscle Beach Pro and a victory at the 2022 Republic of Texas Pro, Stern wrapped up the season with a strong performance at the highly esteemed Mr. Olympia show.

Nutritional Guidance for Fans 

In a recent YouTube video, Stern extended her expertise beyond bodybuilding competitions. She shared a straightforward five-step plan that allows fans to calculate and track their daily calories and macronutrients, crafting a personalized diet plan to accompany their fitness goals.

In a new YouTube video, Erin Stern has disseminated a comprehensive yet straightforward five-step plan to efficiently calculate daily caloric and macronutrient requirements.

“A good diet can either help you along with your progress or it can seriously hinder it,” said Stern. “There’s so much information out there. Where do you turn? The more you learn, the more confusing things can be. I wanted to break it down into five simple ways to calculate your calories and macros.”

Here are The five-step process:

Step One: Foundation of Goals 

The journey commences with goal setting. Stern emphasizes the significance of an honest self-evaluation—current body fat percentage, muscle mass, etc.—with the aid of tools like body fat calipers or DEXA scans. Tracking progress with photos and measurements is encouraged, culminating in the setting of tangible 90-day targets, focused on either muscle gain or fat loss.

Step Two: Understanding Maintenance Calories 

The second stage involves determining maintenance calories—the caloric intake needed to maintain the current weight. Stern outlines multiple ways to achieve this, from utilizing online calculators to a two-week food and weight tracking log. For a quicker solution, Stern recommends a method involving body weight multiplied by a number between 11 and 15, with the choice of multiplier dependent on activity levels.

Step Three: Protein – The Muscle Builder 

Stage three navigates towards protein calculation. Stern posits protein as a critical building block for muscle, suggesting a protein intake that lies around 0.8 to 1.2 times the body weight—a number that stays relatively fixed regardless of goals.

Step Four: Balancing Fats

The fourth step takes on fats, with Stern advising viewers to align fat intake with their dietary preferences and goals. A range of 0.2 to 0.6 times body weight is suggested, with lower values catering to low-fat, high-carb fans, and higher values accommodating those preferring a high-fat, low-carb approach.

Step Five: Carbohydrate Completion 

The final stage involves calculating the carbohydrate intake, which fills in the remaining calories after protein and fats are accounted for. By converting remaining calories into grams, viewers can easily identify their target carbohydrate intake.

“When making adjustments, think about making small changes every 1-2 weeks. This would be an increase or decrease of around 10% of your daily caloric intake or around 100-300 calories. Give your body 1-2 weeks to see how the adjustment works and then decide to stay at your current intake, or adjust intake again.”
