Erholove Izobodo-John has been making waves in the powerlifting world since her debut just two years ago. In November 2022, she solidified her place as a force to be reckoned with by winning the European Junior Classic Championships with a convincing performance.
Breaking Records and Setting the Bar High
During the championship, Izobodo-John set two new records in the European junior category. She shattered the European junior squat record with a lift of 208 kilograms (458.6 pounds) and then went on to set the OPEN European deadlift record with an impressive lift of 240.5 kilograms (530 pounds).

British Records Fall
Erholove Izobodo-John, who weighed in at a light 80.7 kilograms (178 pounds) in the 84-kilogram category, made a significant impact at the 2023 BP Junior Classic Championships. Competing as a Junior, which covers lifters aged 18-23, she took several Open British records during the course of a phenomenal nine-for-nine performance — the first perfect run in her career.
Squat Record Broken
Approaching the platform with a serene look, Izobodo-John broke the Open British record on the squat with 215 kilograms (474 pounds). The weight appeared to be manageable for her, and the speed at which the bar moved indicated more kilograms to come.
History Made on Final Deadlift
Izobodo-John’s calm demeanor did not waver on her final deadlift. She waited patiently in the wings before strolling out to the barbell, setting up into her sumo stance, gripping the bar, and pulling. The 250 kilograms (551 pounds) weight flew off the floor, and within a tiny hesitation, Izobodo-John secured the lockout and a spot in the history books.
World Championship in Sight
Izobodo-John is likely to be selected for the 2023 IPF Junior World Championships in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in August. She is only 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) away from Amanda Lawrence’s Junior deadlift world record, and she has a real shot at her first world title. To make that dream a reality, she will have to compete against the reigning Junior world champion, Poland’s Agata Sitko.
