Eddie Hall and Jay Cutler Crush Intense Back Workout Comparable to Olympia-Level Training

Eddie Hall took inspiration from a legendary bodybuilder in his latest step towards bodybuilding

Written By Tahir Malik

Eddie Hall, the former World’s Strongest Man, recently teamed up with four-time Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, for an intense back workout. In a video posted on Cutler’s YouTube channel, the two heavyweights went through an Olympia-level training session, showcasing their impressive strength and dedication to fitness.

The workout began with a warm-up on the rowing machine, followed by some stretching exercises to get the blood flowing. From there, Hall and Cutler moved on to some intense back exercises, including deadlifts, pull-downs, and rows.

Throughout the workout, Cutler shared his expertise with Hall, providing tips and advice on how to perfect his form and get the most out of each exercise. Hall, in turn, showed off his impressive strength, pulling massive weights with ease and pushing himself to the limit.

By the end of the workout, both Hall and Cutler were drenched in sweat and feeling the burn in their backs. But for these two champions, the hard work and dedication are all part of the journey towards greatness.Eddie Hall’s dedication to bodybuilding is undeniable, as evidenced by his latest YouTube video posted on March 5th, 2023. The strongman legend worked through a rigorous back workout with the guidance of four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler (2006-2007, 2009-2010). This routine is likely part of a series of sessions with established bodybuilders, as Hall prepares for his debut in the sport in 2024.

Eddie Hall Gets Expert Tips on Back Training from Jay Cutler

Eddie Hall’s dedication to bodybuilding is evident in his recent actions. On Mar. 5, 2023, he shared a video on his YouTube channel that showed him working out his back under the guidance of four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler (2006-2007, 2009-2010). The workout is part of a series of training sessions with established bodybuilders as Hall works towards his debut in 2024.

Hall’s back workouts have previously included routines he performed by himself and with Jamie “The Giant” Christian. The workout he did with Cutler featured a lot of pulldowns and rows. Although the exact number of sets and repetitions was not disclosed, Cutler emphasized the importance of strict rest periods with 45 to 60 seconds between sets to maximize conditioning benefits.

List of exercises performed during Eddie Hall’s back workout with Jay Cutler in March 2023:

  1. Machine Lat Pulldown
  2. Single-Arm Bent-Over Dumbbell Row
  3. Machine Reverse-Grip Lat Pulldown
  4. Close-Grip Seated Rows
  5. Machine Reverse-Grip Row

Among the more notable tips Cutler fed Hall about building mass and refining one’s back was during the lat pulldown. The bodybuilding icon had a lot to say about proper form as the 2017 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) worked through his set.

The idea, as it often is in bodybuilding, was about contracting the muscles enough to challenge them.

“I know this weight isn’t too heavy but we’re going to work on the contraction,” Cutler told Hall. “So, when you come down, I want you to kind of … this is kind of imitating the back double biceps, right? So, you’re going to squeeze, you know? Get that fire in the lats. So, make sure you get the contraction and don’t just pull the weight.”

Cutler appeared to really want to emphasize a quality lat pulldown for Hall. After all, it seemed to be one of the keys to his successful career on stage.

“I had a wider waist, so I had to offset. I had to build as big lats as possible,” Cutler explained to Hall. “So, because you always want to create that taper in bodybuilding, right? Because I was a little wider-waisted, the lats had to really flare out. So I really focused on the pulldown movements.”

As for how Cutler characterized Hall’s work ethic, he was very complimentary while the strongman/hopeful bodybuilder did his single-arm bent-over dumbbell rows.

“He’s [Hall] definitely the hardest worker in the room. That’s for sure.

Surely, Eddie Hall’s commitment to bodybuilding is not slowing down anytime soon. According to his YouTube channel, he has been posting videos of himself doing various bodybuilding training sessions over the past few weeks. In these videos, he has been working with established bodybuilders such as Jamie Christian, Jay Cutler, and Larry Wheels.

It seems that Hall is determined to acquire as much knowledge as possible about bodybuilding from experts in the field. And with the caliber of people he’s working with, it’s no wonder that he’s making strides in the sport.
