Bodybuilders strive for a specific aesthetic, which requires them to control their diet by manipulating calories to achieve a caloric deficit. By doing so, they can lose fat and reveal the muscle they have worked hard to build. It is essential to maintain a low body fat percentage to achieve optimal conditioning for competitions. If body fat percentage is too high, the visuals on stage will be weakened, even with a significant amount of muscle mass.

On March 10, 2023, Dana Linn Bailey, a former Women’s Physique Olympia champion, shared her dieting regimen for achieving a shredded physique in a video on her YouTube channel. Getting shredded means becoming lean enough to showcase the separation between muscles. Bodybuilders must follow a strict diet and exercise routine to achieve this look, which requires a caloric deficit and careful attention to nutrition.

 

Dana Linn Bailey typically skips breakfast and doesn’t eat her first meal until 1 p.m. However, if she trains before her first meal, she drinks a Chobani Complete, which is a yogurt-based drink with 20 grams of protein and 170 calories.

Bailey’s first meal of the day consists of two ounces of 93% lean ground beef, onions, egg whites, and cream of wheat. She tops it with sliced banana and sugar-free maple syrup, and it provides a total of 440 calories.

Bailey’s second meal is a bit “bland” in her opinion but helps her maintain her cut. It consists of five ounces of ground chicken and one cup of white rice topped with Japanese hot and spicy barbecue sauce. This meal provides her with the necessary macros to achieve her goals.

Dana Linn Bailey’s last meal of the day is also the largest calorie-wise, totaling 587 calories. Her daily macro breakdown includes 26 grams of fat, 191 grams of carbs, and 129 grams of protein, providing a total of 1,514 calories, with 234 calories from fat, 764 calories from carbs, and 516 calories from protein.

One of the reasons why Bailey’s diet is successful is that she can maintain it without putting too much thought into it. She doesn’t feel restricted in her food intake or long for more food. In fact, she presents as if she is eating more than she would prefer otherwise.
