As the CrossFit Open 2023 progresses, athletes around the world are eagerly anticipating the release of each week’s workout. Week two brought with it the unveiling of 23.2, which was announced live by CrossFit HQ on February 23, 2023 at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The announcement was accompanied by a thrilling display of athleticism, as CrossFit Games Men’s runners-up Patrick Vellner and Roman Khrennikov faced off in a showcase battle.

The 23.2 workout is divided into two parts, each presenting its own unique challenges. Part A requires athletes to tackle a combination of burpee pull-ups and shuttle runs, testing their endurance and agility. Part B, on the other hand, is all about strength, as athletes strive to achieve a one-rep max thruster. With these two components, 23.2 promises to push athletes to their limits and separate the top performers from the rest of the pack.

Watch the Live Announcement of CrossFit Open Workout 23.2

Workout 23.2 presents different variations across the RX’d and Scaled divisions.

RX’d:

23.2A: Within a time limit of 15 minutes, complete as many reps as possible of:

  • Five burpee pull-ups
  • 10 shuttle runs (one rep is 25-feet out and 25-feet back)

Add five burpees at the end of each round.

23.2B: Immediately following 23.2A, athletes have five minutes to achieve their one-rep max thruster from the floor.

Scaled:

23.2A: Within a time limit of 15 minutes, complete as many reps as possible of:

  • Five burpees (jump to touch the pull-up bar on each rep)
  • 10 shuttle runs (one rep is 25-feet out and 25-feet back)

Add five burpees at the end of each round.

23.2B: Immediately following 23.2A, athletes have five minutes to achieve their one-rep max thruster from the floor.

With these variations, the 23.2 workout challenges athletes of all levels, from the experienced RX’d competitors to the scaled division seeking to push themselves to new heights.

For athletes just starting with CrossFit, the 23.2 workout has been adapted into a Foundations version, with variations that are accessible yet still challenging:

23.2A: Within a time limit of 15 minutes, complete as many reps as possible of:

  • Five burpees
  • 10 shuttle runs or walks (one rep is 50 feet)

Add five burpees at the end of each round.

23.2B: Immediately following 23.2A, athletes have five minutes to perform a one-rep max thruster with optimal technique and load.

With these movements, the 23.2 Foundations workout provides a great starting point for newcomers to CrossFit, while still pushing them to strive for their best performance.

Adaptive Divisions in the CrossFit Open: Inclusion for Athletes with Disabilities

In order to accommodate athletes with different abilities and needs, the CrossFit Open offers eight Adaptive Divisions, each with its own set of movement standards and variations.

The Adaptive Divisions include Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Multi-Extremity, Vision, Short Stature, Seated Athletes (With Hip Function), Seated Athletes (Without Hip Function), and Intellectual. Both Women’s and Men’s categories are available for each division.

The 2023 CrossFit Open will continue through the final week of February and into the first week of March, giving Adaptive Division athletes ample time to showcase their skills and compete alongside their peers.
