Chris Bumstead isn’t leaving the bodybuilding stage just yet. Although the six-time Classic Physique Olympia champion hinted at retirement, his departure seems short-lived. Now, bodybuilding fans are getting what they have long hoped for—a chance to see Bumstead take on the Men’s Open division. On October 28, 2024, Bumstead confirmed he will debut in Men’s Open at the 2024 Prague Pro. Furthermore, the event, set for November 16-17 in Prague, Czech Republic, will be his first time competing outside Classic Physique. Ultimately, this shift has ignited excitement in the bodybuilding community, where his transition to Open has been widely speculated.
In addition, Bumstead enters the Open division as a confirmed athlete. Moreover, his unique qualities stand out in this category, where size and mass play crucial roles. Also, known for his exceptional aesthetics and symmetry, he not only differentiates himself from competitors but also potentially shifts how they approach their training and presentation. Notably, his arrival could reshape the competitive landscape, especially given the emphasis on these attributes in the Men’s Open division.
“6-time Mr. Olympia winner in the Men’s Classic Physique category, Chris Bumstead, will be competing for the first time in his career in Europe at EVLS PRAGUE! Don’t miss his unique debut in the Men’s Open Bodybuilding category and be part of it on November 16-17 in Prague at PVA EXPO PRAGUE.”
Breaking: Chris Bumstead To Debut Men’s Open at Prague Pro – Is This the Start of a New Era?
Bumstead confirmed the news himself in a separate social media post. This announcement added to the excitement surrounding his debut. Furthermore, his personal confirmation energized fans who are eager to see him in the Men’s Open division.
“Y’all said I had a decent physique and should try competing…so I figured I’d give it a shot. One more run just for fun, giving the people what they want,” Bumstead wrote.
In addition, Bumstead has never competed outside of Classic Physique in his pro bodybuilding career. Consequently, many fans have often wondered if he would ever make the leap to the Men’s Open division. Furthermore, many fans have raised the question of Chris Bumstead’s potential move to the Men’s Open division, especially during his 2021 interviews with various media outlets. During those discussions, he explained that he had indeed considered moving up; however, his health remained his ultimate priority.
“I’d be lying if I said I never thought of it, but I have had health complications in the past. At Classic Physique, I’m not pushing my limits. I can stay super healthy. My body can handle it,” he said.
Bumstead continued: “I genuinely love Classic Physique. It may not be as big or popular…prize money may not be as much, but it’s a neat division. To be at the top in the beginning…to play a role in shaping what it can become…if I can be a long-reigning champ, I can retire happily with absolutely no regrets.”
Bumstead’s health is good enough to scratch the itch and see how he performs on the big stage. If he wins, he’ll qualify for the 2025 Mr. Olympia. However, he has not confirmed whether he will actually compete afterward if he scores a victory. Meanwhile, the site of the 2025 Olympia has not yet been announced.
The competitor list for the 2024 Prague Pro is expected to be revealed the week before the contest. Interestingly, the 2023 winner of the Prague Pro was Samson Dauda, who went on to claim the 2024 Mr. Olympia title. This connection adds to the excitement surrounding the upcoming event.
