Recently, he shared a thought-provoking opinion on how the Open division could change if Classic Physique competitors made the jump.
Bumstead reposted a message on Instagram that claimed the Olympia Top 10 “would look a lot different” if Classic competitors entered Open. While the original post came from an unofficial X account, Bumstead seemed to agree with the sentiment.
“Little Bear is growing up. Go show ’em what the Classic boys are made of.”
After claiming his sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in October 2024, Bumstead announced his retirement. He made a final stage appearance at the EVLS Prague Pro in Men’s Open and finished as the runner-up. Since then, he has remained active in fitness while pursuing new personal challenges.

The Classic Physique division has long received praise from legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Many fans argue that Classic brings back the most aesthetic physiques, while Open focuses more on sheer size. However, others still consider Open the ultimate test of bodybuilding dominance.
Now, Urs Kalecinski is putting this theory to the test. He announced that he will move from Classic to Men’s Open this year. Kalecinski has been one of the top three bodybuilders in the world during his time in Classic but said that the weight cap has limited his progress.

Kalecinski will forgo his qualification for this year’s Olympia in Classic to pursue the Open division instead. He revealed that he is currently 17 kilograms above the Classic limit, and cutting that much weight would compromise his stage readiness.
He will make his Open debut on September 7 at the Promuscle Italy Pro, marking a major milestone in his career. Bumstead publicly supported Kalecinski, praising him for taking on the new challenge and representing Classic athletes on the Open stage.
