Shaw Plans Final Appearance at World’s Strongest Man

Four-time World’s Strongest Man (WSM) champion and Strongman icon Brian Shaw is gearing up for his final appearance at the 2023 WSM competition, which is scheduled to take place from April 19 to 23 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Fans are eagerly awaiting Shaw’s performance, which promises to be one of the highlights of the event.

Near Loss of Leg Nearly Derails Shaw’s Dreams

Despite his storied career and unwavering determination, Shaw recently faced a health scare that nearly cost him his leg. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, titled “Road to WSM,” Shaw shared footage of himself in a hospital bed. He explained that an infection had developed in his leg, which was fortunately treated before it could cause irreparable damage. However, the infection had spread dangerously close to a critical point, which could have ended his Strongman career.

Shaw Shares Details of Health Scare with Fans

In the “Road to WSM” video, Shaw candidly discussed the events leading up to his hospitalization and the subsequent treatment he received. He emphasized the importance of taking care of one’s health and listening to one’s body, even when faced with seemingly minor ailments. Shaw’s openness about his experience has resonated with his fans and fellow Strongman enthusiasts, who appreciate his willingness to share both the highs and lows of his journey.

“The biggest thing is that it didn’t go into my bloodstream. So, if I would have waited potentially any longer, the big fear would be it going into my bloodstream… Once it does that, the outcome might not be as good, meaning possible amputation.”

Brian Shaw Remains Resilient Despite Serious Infection

Brian Shaw’s recent video on his channel titled “Road to WSM” shows footage of the four-time WSM champion lying in a hospital bed discussing the recent infection he suffered. The video shows the distressing condition of Shaw’s leg which had changed color to purple and had begun to dry out. Despite the severity of the infection, Shaw remained positive and focused on his goal of winning his fifth WSM title.

During his stay in the hospital, Shaw made a conscious effort to maintain his weight by eating several meals throughout the day and taking short walks. His resilience and determination to overcome the setback have inspired fans worldwide, and they eagerly anticipate seeing him compete at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition in Myrtle Beach, SC.

“When you battle some adversity like this, you just have to find a way… I’m trying to get five meals in a day right now. The goal is to walk out of here having not lost a lot of bodyweight.”

Brian Shaw Draws Inspiration from Past Experience to Overcome Latest Infection Setback

In addition to detailing the severity of his recent infection, Brian Shaw also drew inspiration from a past experience in his latest video. The four-time WSM champion recalled how he underwent surgery before the 2013 competition but still managed to come out on top. The memory of that victory gave him hope that he can achieve the same outcome this time around. Shaw’s determination to overcome setbacks and his past success are inspiring fans and fellow athletes alike as he continues his preparations for the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition.

“This has reminded me the most of 2013. In 2013 I had to have a nerve release surgery done approximately three months out from WSM… So, I’ve been telling myself, as I’ve been sitting here, that this leg infection is not as bad as that.

During his hospital stay, Brian Shaw used his time to review training videos and create a training plan to improve his performance at the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. Despite being unable to train physically, Shaw remained focused on his goal of winning the competition.

Fully Recovered, Brian Shaw is Motivated for Upcoming Competitions

Brian Shaw’s recovery from the infection has left him even more motivated to perform at his best in the upcoming competitions. With the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition and the 2023 Shaw Classic as his final appearances in professional Strongman, Shaw is determined to make his mark and leave behind a legacy of incredible performances.

Brian Shaw’s Previous Experience with Injury and Surgery This recent infection is not the first obstacle that Brian Shaw has had to overcome in his Strongman career. In 2013, he underwent surgery prior to the WSM competition and still managed to come out on top. Shaw is hopeful that he will have a similar outcome this time around and is not letting the infection slow him down.
