Eddie Hall reenters combat sports, dedicating himself to MMA training. In a recent session, a YouTube video captured Eddie Hall being knocked out by his sparring partner. Moreover, while the 2016 World’s Strongest Man remains largely unaffected, the intensity led to a momentary loss of balance, prompting him to seek some rest.
Preparations are underway for Hall’s upcoming MMA match against Mitchell Hooper, the 2023 World’s Strongest Man, scheduled for February 17th at Lusail Stadium in Qatar. Moreover, the bout is a key feature in ‘The Finishers Championship,’ a tournament-style event.

Eddie Hall Experiences Knocked out
Eddie Hall, towering at 1.91 meters and weighing over 300 pounds, faced an unexpected knockout in sparring. The assailant, a professional Russian fighter standing at 2.05 meters, showcased a significant size match-up.
The knockout occurred in the first round of sparring, where the Russian fighter executed a powerful high kick to Hall’s head. The impact left Hall momentarily stiff, causing him to drop to the ground. While he quickly regained his footing, recovery time was needed following the potent kick.
“I was pre-warned that he was a bit of a lethal weapon. I was very cautious with this guy. Didn’t want to attack him, to be honest; I just wanted to feel each other out… It was a good wake up call for the first round of sparring.”
Undeterred by the earlier knockout, Eddie Hall faced two additional sizable sparring partners, demonstrating resilience against their formidable statures. The absence of a size disparity ensured an equitable matchup between Hall and his opponents.
Post sparring rounds, Hall transitioned to attacking drills within the cage. Notably, Tom Aspinal, the current top-ranked UFC heavyweight, took charge of organizing the day’s events for Hall. During their conversation, Eddie revisited the earlier knockout incident, shedding additional light on the intense sparring session.
“I thought I’d just keep my distance and work my way in when I can. Then, he just switched, (kicked with the) back leg, and I woke up on my back. So fair play to him,” said Hall.
“It is learning. I still crave and try to get myself into as many uncomfortable positions as I can. When you get into a fight and get uncomfortable, if you are not used to that, what are you going to do,” responded Tom Aspinal.
