Bob Cicherillo & Shawn Ray Tell Samson Dauda to “Shut It Down” Until 2026 Olympia, Urge Nick Walker to Wait for Final Qualifier
Bodybuilding commentators Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray advised Samson Dauda to rest until the 2026 Mr. Olympia while urging Nick Walker to strategically wait for the last Olympia qualifier of the year.
Samson Dauda 🥈🇬🇧 delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Mr. Olympia, but not without criticism. According to bodybuilding veterans Bob Cicherillo and Shawn Ray, Dauda has reached a crucial stage in his career where strategic rest is more valuable than stage time and focused for 2026 Olympia and offered same advice for Walker.
Both analysts believe Dauda’s physique peaked earlier in the season and began showing signs of fatigue by the Olympia weekend. They encouraged him to avoid the 2026 Arnold Classic and use the downtime to fully rebuild for the next Olympia.
“There’s nothing to gain at the Arnold,” Shawn Ray said. “He needs to shut it down and wait for next year’s Mr. Olympia.”
Ray emphasized that Dauda’s structure remains one of the best in the division, but his recent look lacked the crispness and roundness seen in previous contests. Competing too frequently, they said, only risks flattening his physique.

Cicherillo echoed Ray’s thoughts, noting that Dauda’s back appeared flatter and his legs lacked pop compared to his peak in 2024. He believes Dauda’s physique is showing signs of accumulated fatigue from back-to-back prep cycles.
“He’s one of the most gifted guys on that stage,” Cicherillo said. “But you can’t keep pushing your body to that level show after show. At some point, it stops responding.”
Both experts agreed that Dauda should take the year off from major competitions. A full year of rest, recalibration, and targeted training could allow him to regain his razor-sharp conditioning and possibly overtake Derek Lunsford in 2026.
They emphasized that Dauda already has the muscle maturity and structure of a champion — he just needs to prioritize long-term development over short-term exposure.
The discussion then turned toward Nick Walker 🥇🇺🇸, who finished sixth at the 2025 Mr. Olympia after returning from a significant injury layoff. His comeback sparked widespread discussion in the bodybuilding world about his next competitive move.
Cicherillo and Ray both advised Walker to resist the temptation of jumping into early-season contests. Instead, they believe his best shot at success lies in competing closer to the 2026 Olympia itself.
“If I was running Nick’s camp,” Cicherillo explained, “I’d be targeting the last show or two right before Olympia. Hit whatever those are, so you ride in right before the Olympia.”
He warned that competing too early could backfire. If Walker doesn’t win a qualification spot immediately, he may be forced to compete multiple times — leading to overtraining or peaking too early.
“Nick doesn’t need to prove anything at the Arnold,” Ray added. “What he needs is a perfect prep and the right timing. One shot, late-season, and straight into the Olympia.”
A Strategic Year Ahead
Cicherillo and Ray’s analysis highlights the importance of strategy in modern bodybuilding. With the stakes higher than ever, even top-tier athletes like Dauda and Walker need to think beyond short-term victories.
“You don’t win Olympia titles by showing up everywhere,” Cicherillo said. “You win them by showing up when it matters most.”
Both experts emphasized that the 2026 season should be about timing, recovery, and rebuilding. Dauda must return rejuvenated, while Walker needs to stay patient and peak perfectly heading into the Olympia.
