In the demanding and unforgiving world of powerlifting, few figures have garnered as much attention and acclaim as Blake Lehew. Fresh from a world record at the 2021 World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) World Championships, Lehew isn’t just on a victory lap; he’s on the hunt for more.

The Ascendancy of a Legend

Blake Lehew is not just another powerlifter. Over a decade of dedication, sweat, and unyielding perseverance has made him the titan he is today. From national stages to international arenas, Lehew has showcased not just his strength but an uncanny ability to evolve and adapt. The multiple accolades he’s won, coupled with the world records he’s set, sketch the outline of a legacy in the making.

His evolution from the 74-kilogram category in 2016 as the USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Juniors raw National Champion to his current competitive weight at 82.5 kilograms is a testament to his adaptability. But numbers only tell half the story. His recent performance at the WRPF American Pro—hoisting an aggregate of 930 kilograms (2,050.3 pounds)—tells of a man at the peak of his powers.

Beyond the Belt: The Deadlift Heard Round the World

On a February day in 2023, social media lit up with a display of raw power. Lehew, in a now-viral Instagram video, conquered a 385-kilogram (848-pound) deadlift. And he did it beltless. Pulling the massive weight using a sumo stance and a conventional grip, the world watched, spellbound. This was not just about the weight; it was a statement.

Performance Details
Lift Type Deadlift
Weight Lifted 385 kilograms (848 pounds)
Equipment None (Beltless)
Body Weight 190 pounds
Stance & Grip Sumo stance with a traditional grip
Competition Best Matches all-time raw competition best

The absence of a belt, a staple for many powerlifters, turned heads. It’s not just about the aid belts provide in creating a sturdier core. They offer a tangible surface against which one can brace, fortifying the spine during heavy lifts. Lehew’s decision to forsake it underscores a mastery over his craft, displaying the importance of core strength and technique in elite powerlifting.

The Road Ahead: A Glimpse into Lehew’s Future

With bated breath, fans and fellow competitors alike wait for Lehew’s next move. Teasing hints on his social media suggest another competition looms on the horizon. The exact contest remains shrouded in mystery, but the whispers point towards an event in early April 2023.

A perusal of potential platforms highlights a few contenders. The WRPF 2023 events calendar, with its Face Off on April 2, emerges as a possibility. Alternatively, the USPA’s 2023 USA Powerlifting Battle at Bionic Barbell on the same day could be the stage for Lehew’s next spectacle.

Overview

Hints on Lehew’s social media point toward an imminent competition around early April 2023. Both the WRPF’s event on April 2nd and the USPA’s 2023 USA Powerlifting Battle at Bionic Barbell emerge as potential stages for his next feat. The powerlifting world eagerly awaits his next demonstration of prowess.
