Luz Maria Barrera Agaton, a 32-year-old bikini bodybuilder, Found dead early Sunday morning while vacationing with her family in Motul, Mexico. Additionally, she was staying at the Coco Resort & Villas Hotel, located just west of Cancun. Moreover, she was accompanied by her boyfriend and several relatives during the trip.
Secondly, her body was found at the bottom of the hotel’s swimming pool, according to initial reports. Immediately, emergency services were called to the scene. Unfortunately, paramedics were unable to revive her despite their best efforts.
Thirdly, authorities have launched an investigation into her death. Importantly, they have not ruled out foul play. Therefore, the cause of death remains unclear as officials continue to examine the circumstances.
Lastly, local media revealed troubling details about her recent life. Specifically, threatening banners appeared outside Barrera’s gym in Merida just two weeks ago. However, she did not report these threats to the police. Consequently, whether these incidents are connected is still unknown, but investigators are looking into it.

Bikini Bodybuilder Dead While Vacationing With Family in Mexico
Luz Maria Barrera Agaton had a lifelong passion for fitness. Moreover, she transformed that passion into a successful career. She competed in the Bikini division and built a competitive physique. In 2017, she placed fourth at the Amateur Olympia in Bikini. At the same time, she won the Fitness title at the Mister Mexico contest. Then, in 2018, she participated in the Mexico Supershow Pro Qualifier.

Her career steadily advanced in the following years. Notably, 2024 marked a breakthrough. That year, she won the Amateur Olympia competition. In addition, she was crowned Queen of the Motul Carnival. These achievements highlighted her rising profile in the sport.
Beyond competition, Barrera Agaton expanded her role in the fitness community. For example, she opened Golden Gyms. Furthermore, she joined the Yucatan State Bodybuilding & Fitness Association. She also sponsored bodybuilding contests in Motul. Clearly, she was dedicated to growing the sport locally and regionally.
Evangelina Cime Mezquita, president of AFFEY, paid tribute on Facebook after Barrera Agaton’s death.
“She was a woman who brought the name of Yucatan to the international stage. She was an organizer, sponsor, businesswoman, friend, and above all, a very humane woman. Those of us who had the good fortune to know her loved her very much.”
