“We all have self-doubts and things that we struggle with, but it’s knowing that it’s just thoughts that come into our head. It doesn’t change anything.”

Thorisdottir’s CrossFit Games Journey

Annie Thorisdottir, also known as “Iceland Annie,” began her journey at the CrossFit Games when she first qualified in 2009. Although she did not finish that year, she came in second the following year to champion Kristan Clever.

The Years of Triumph and Challenges

After winning two titles in 2011 and 2012, Thorisdottir missed the 2013 Games but made a comeback in 2014, placing second again to then-champion Camille Leblanc-Bazinet. She competed every year from 2015 to 2019, with her best result being third place in 2017 to six-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey.

A Break to Motherhood and Team Competition

Thorisdottir took a break from the 2020 Games to become a mother but returned in 2021 to finish in third place again. In the 2022 Games, she moved to the Teams division and finished fourth overall with Team CrossFit Reykjavik. She is now set to compete in the 2023 Semifinals, with a chance to qualify for the 2023 CrossFit Games held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, WI, on Aug. 1-6, 2023.
