Angel Calderon Frias has withdraw and will not compete at the 2025 Mr. Olympia. Furthermore, the IFBB Pro League 212 bodybuilder announced he is recovering from triceps tendon surgery, which rules him out of the highly anticipated event scheduled for Oct. 9-12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Initially, Frias had hoped to push through lingering pain in his arm. However, the discomfort persisted. Eventually, an MRI revealed a triceps tendon fracture. As a result, surgery became unavoidable. Frias shared the update from his hospital bed via Instagram.
“After several days seeing that the injury in the arm wasn’t getting much better, yesterday they did an MRI to see exactly what the condition of the injury was; a triceps tendon fracture. Thankfully, I have surgery today, and my recovery phase begins,” Frias wrote.
Fortunately, the surgery appears to have gone well. Now, the Spanish athlete is focusing on rehabilitation. Although he remains sidelined from the 2025 Olympia, his competitive spirit endures.

Angel Calderon Frias Withdraw From 2025 Olympia After Triceps Surgery
Frias secured his qualification by finishing third at the 2024 Mr. Olympia in the 212 division. He placed just behind two Americans: reigning champion Keone Pearson 🇺🇸 and two-time winner Shaun Clarida 🇺🇸. According to Olympia qualification rules, the top three from each division earn a return ticket to the following year’s contest.
Still, Frias did not sit back on his laurels. Throughout the 2025 season, he remained active in both the 212 and Men’s Open divisions. Most recently, he finished second at the 2025 Dubai 212 Pro. That outing seemed to affirm his form heading into Las Vegas. Then came the injury setback.
Now, Frias must regroup. Since he won’t appear at this year’s event, he must win a pro show during the 2026 season to requalify for Olympia. That requirement reflects the IFBB Pro League’s rules, which reset a competitor’s status following an injury withdrawal.
Meanwhile, his absence leaves a noticeable gap in this year’s lineup. Both Pearson and Clarida now carry even greater expectations. Fans are especially eager to see whether Clarida can reclaim the title or if Pearson will extend his reign.
Additionally, the official qualification window remains open until Sept. 14, 2025. Therefore, more athletes could still punch their tickets to the Olympia stage.
