To begin the final day of the 2025 World’s Strongest Man Finals, athletes faced the return of the Flintstone Press Max. Notably, the event had not appeared since 2022, when Oleksii Novikov set the standing WSM record of 246 kilograms. As a result, the anticipation around the event was high.

At that point, Rayno Nel held a commanding lead on the leaderboard. Specifically, he led Mitchell Hooper by seven points and Tom Stoltman by nine. Therefore, both Hooper and Stoltman needed either a flawless showing or a costly error from Nel to stay in contention.

Later that evening, the energy in the arena surged. According to Colosseum Strength, Lucas Hatton would perform a guest lift. Consequently, speculation quickly spread that he might attempt a world-record overhead press of 276 kilograms. Regardless of whether he made the attempt, his presence electrified the crowd.

Eventually, Nel missed his lift in round two. In turn, that opened the door for his closest rivals. Indeed, Hooper finished with third-place points while Stoltman took first in the event. As a result, Nel’s lead narrowed dramatically to just 2.5 points with one event remaining.

2025 World’s Strongest Man — Flintstone Press Max Recap

The event kicked off with 188 kilograms on the bar. Trey Mitchell was the first to lift. Although a fan tried to spark a “USA!” chant, it fell flat. Still, Mitchell stayed composed and made the lift look easy.

Next, Pavlo Kordiyaka stepped up. Quickly, he split jerked the bar into the second round. Then, Tom Stoltman approached. Known for pushing Oleksii Novikov to a record in 2022, he breezed through the opening weight.

After that, Luke Stoltman took his turn. Clearly focused, he braced deeply before locking out smoothly. Meanwhile, Hooper also locked out confidently and advanced.

On the other side, Shane Flowers looked shaky but completed his lift. Simultaneously, Ondrej Fojtů, the youngest in the field, made the weight look easy. Unfortunately, Paddy Haynes missed, widening the gap behind Tom Stoltman. Nel and Williams rounded out the first round, with Nel locking out quickly and Williams missing.

At the same time, Lucas Hatton made a guest appearance. Impressively, he split jerked 188 kilograms overhead and acknowledged the crowd.

Stoltman Brothers and Hooper Shine

Moving into round two at 199 kilograms, Mitchell made it look like a warm-up. Similarly, Kordiyaka lifted with ease. Then, Tom Stoltman bounced the bar on his shoulders before locking out.

Likewise, Luke Stoltman mirrored his brother’s technique and advanced. Hooper locked out solidly. Flowers surprised himself by making the lift, advancing as well. Meanwhile, Fojtů’s flawless technique pushed him through without issue.

However, Nel missed and showed clear frustration, putting his lead in jeopardy. Still, Hooper and Stoltman sensed opportunity and steadied their nerves.

At 210.9 kilograms in round three, Mitchell seemed unstoppable. Moreover, Kordiyaka stood on one leg after locking out, earning a “Flamingo!” shout. Tom Stoltman advanced again, but Luke missed and bowed out.

Then, Hooper refocused and locked out. Conversely, Flowers missed and withdrew. Fojtů impressed once more and advanced. Hatton also succeeded, moving closer to a potential world record.

Next, the bar rose to 220 kilograms. Mitchell led off, again ignoring another failed “USA!” chant attempt. He locked out powerfully.

Kordiyaka stayed calm during his lift. Tom Stoltman widened his grip, making the lift appear even easier. Hooper and Fojtů moved on, but Hatton skipped this weight to conserve energy.

Final Rounds and Record Attempts

Round five brought 229.5 kilograms. Mitchell led, clean and steady. Although the crowd stayed quiet, Mitchell’s strength was undeniable.

Next, Kordiyaka wobbled but stabilized and celebrated with a double fist-pump. Tom Stoltman’s lockout was loud and powerful. Hooper adjusted his belt, braced deeply, and barely locked out the weight. Meanwhile, Fojtů failed and graciously acknowledged the crowd. Hatton returned with a successful lift, stirring excitement about the record chase.

At 240 kilograms in round six, Mitchell succeeded again, prompting the commentator to exclaim, “He beasted it above his head!” Conversely, Kordiyaka failed, dropping the bar behind him.

Then, Tom Stoltman locked out and celebrated. Hooper fought hard but stumbled, dumping the weight and breaking a barrel. The crew paused to fix it before Hatton’s next lift, which was flawless.

Finally, the showdown came at 252 kilograms. Mitchell pushed off his shoulders but failed to lock out. Stoltman locked it but lost his footing.

At last, Hatton locked out the weight and set a new WSM record. Later, Bryce announced a final challenge: 277 kilograms—the heaviest Flintstone Press ever attempted.

Hatton approached with a standing ovation but couldn’t hold it overhead. “That was a big jump,” he said.

Naturally, anticipation was high after Oleksii Novikov’s record in that year. Meanwhile, Rayno Nel led the leaderboard by a comfortable margin. However, both Mitchell Hooper and Tom Stoltman needed flawless lifts to close the gap. Then, Nel missed an important lift, opening the door for his rivals. Consequently, Stoltman won the event while Hooper placed third. Finally, Lucas Hatton made a guest lift and set a new world record, electrifying the crowd. Now, the championship will come down to the Atlas Stones with Nel’s lead cut to just 2.5 points.
