The second event of the 2025 World’s Strongest Man was the Deadlift for Reps. Furthermore, this time, the athletes faced 350 kilograms, or 771 pounds, for as many repetitions as possible. Only 23 competitors made it to the platform. Earlier, Luke Richardson and Evan Singleton withdrew due to torn biceps—Richardson’s on the right, Singleton’s on the left—both injuries sustained during the Loading Medley.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento heat climbed steadily toward the upper 80s. Once again, the weather stirred memories of the 2022 contest, also held in Sacramento. However, that year, the Deadlift Ladder caused serious issues. In particular, the platform became so hot that athletes felt burning through their shoes.
As a result, several competitors had to jump off the stage mid-lift. Among them, Pavlo Kordiyaka likely still remembers the discomfort. Back then, the mix of heat and pressure from the barbells created a dangerous combination. Clearly, the environment can be as punishing as the events themselves.
In the end, Trey Mitchell emerged on top. Notably, he was the only strongman to reach double digits in reps. With that, he claimed the event win. Now, he’s a clear threat for the overall title.

2025 World’s Strongest Man Deadlift for Reps Recap
Note: This event did not maintain group order.
Group One
To start, Andrade entered solo to kick off Group One. His first four reps looked like warm-ups. Then, his fifth rep slowed, and he missed the sixth due to dizziness affecting his balance. Afterwards, Andrade tried to reset but seemed to overheat and collapsed. Medical staff quickly rushed to his aid, and thankfully, he was alright.
Following him, Evans and Schoonwinkel competed next. They stayed synchronized through the first two reps. Then, Schoonwinkel increased the pace but suffered a bloody nose on a borderline rep. However, judge Magnus ver Magnusson did not award the rep.
Lastly, Tom Stoltman and Williams closed Group One. Stoltman was making his sixth WSM appearance, while Williams was on his fourth. Interestingly, Stoltman was the first athlete so far to lift barefoot.
Stoltman moved smoothly through his reps, although he did not look comfortable. Meanwhile, Williams lifted confidently, with a satisfied expression. After a brief pause, Stoltman locked out a final rep, matching the overall lead with seven reps.
Group Two
Johnson lifted solo for Group Two. He made the weight look easy through four reps. Then, the fifth was slower, the sixth even slower, and the seventh needed hitching. He failed his eighth attempt just before the whistle blew.
Next, Ragg and Derwinsky took the stage, knowing Nel’s eight reps was the target. Ragg lifted steadily, wearing a towel on his head that fell off after his third rep. Derwinsky matched him rep for rep before stepping off the platform to steady himself. Ragg kept pulling until the whistle, matching the second-best total overall.
Afterward, Haynes and Hooper competed in their second consecutive event. Hooper lifted immediately after the whistle. Both athletes pulled at steady paces. Hooper nearly locked out his final rep but dropped the bar. Meanwhile, Haynes ground out his last pull and won the event just before the judge’s down signal.
Group Three
Hatton opened for Group Three after posting the slowest Loading Medley time. Initially, he was confused about who was giving the starting whistle while in position. Fortunately, head judge Magnus ver Magnusson clarified the signal. Then, Hatton showed impressive deadlifting skills with seven clean reps.
Next, it seemed Hatton might have overheated in the scorching 82-degree heat. However, he was ultimately fine. This highlighted that the heat was a major challenge for both competitors and crew.
Afterward, Kieliszkowski and Nana faced off in heat two. Nana scored seven clean reps, a solid performance for his second WSM. Then, he attempted an eighth but failed. Meanwhile, Kieliszkowski couldn’t get the bar to move on his first try.
Finally, Nel and Flowers competed in the last heat of Group Three. Nel lifted at twice the pace of Flowers. He quickly lowered the bar after each rep, while Flowers performed slow eccentrics. Although Nel dropped the bar on his final rep, officials awarded him eight clean reps to win the group.
Group Four
Throughout the event, the WSM crew wiped barbells and platforms with frozen towels to prevent overheating. They repeated this before Hoath and Mitchell entered for the penultimate heat.
Mitchell was flawless through five reps. Hoath stayed close behind. Mitchell showed no weakness through seven reps and locked out a clean eighth. Then, he hitched through a ninth and got a tenth to his knees just before time expired.
Finally, Fojtů and Boudreault closed the event. Both knew that eight reps would earn big points despite Mitchell’s 10 reps. Boudreault was very slow through his first rep and waved off after locking it out. Fojtů did a bit better but stopped after five reps.
Group Five
To begin, Flynn and Guardione opened the group. Both were slow to lock out their initial reps. However, they gained steady momentum once moving. Then, Guardione took a knee after a successful hitch on his last rep. Flynn called it off after also taking a knee.
Next, Guardione hopped off the stage jester-style. He wasn’t wearing shoes, and the platform was painfully hot from the sun.
Oh, it’s terrible. It looked like Kordiyaka didn’t have enough chalk on his hands and straps,” which caused the bar to slip.
—Rob Kearney
Finally, Luke Stoltman and Kordiyaka closed Group Five. Both stood in socks on the blazing platform, waiting through a delay that upset Kordiyaka. Once ready, Kordiyaka wasted no time, hitting three fast reps. Then, he scored a shaky fourth but failed a fifth after two regrips.
When asked about the difficulty of pulling such a heavy deadlift after regripping, Rob Kearney commented, “It’s terrible. It looked like Kordiyaka didn’t have enough chalk on his hands and straps,” which caused the bar to slip.

Overview
The 2025 World’s Strongest Man Deadlift for Reps challenged 23 athletes to lift 350 kilograms for as many reps as possible. However, Luke Richardson and Evan Singleton withdrew due to torn biceps from the previous event. Meanwhile, Sacramento’s heat climbed into the upper 80s, recalling the scorching conditions in 2022 that forced athletes off the platform. Consequently, the environment proved as tough as the lifts themselves. Finally, Trey Mitchell dominated with 10 reps, the only competitor to reach double digits, making him a top contender for the overall title.
