The 2025  Strongman Champions League (SCL) Dubai took place on October 18-19 in the United Arab Emirates. Twelve strongmen competed across six brutal events. Aivars Šmaukstelis built momentum on day one and surged ahead on day two. He finished with 57.5 points to clinch the victory.

Adam Roszkowski and Ramin Farajnejad were hot challengers throughout. Roszkowski closed at 54.5 points; Farajnejad at 53. Both stayed consistent in events and pushed Šmaukstelis late into the competition.

The event lineup tested pressing strength, deadlift capacity, speed, and loading skill. It began with a Dumbbell Press – five men tied for first at four reps. The final event was the Atlas Stones – Šmaukstelis won it to secure his title.

This competition further demonstrated the global depth of strongman. Athletes from Latvia, Poland, Iran, the UK, USA, Sweden and beyond fought. The SCL Dubai event stood out as one of 2025’s most competitive stages.

Event 1 — Dumbbell Press

This event opened the competition. Athletes pressed a 100 kg (220.5 lb) dumbbell from floor to overhead using one arm. Five competitors achieved four reps: Šmaukstelis, Roszkowski, Farajnejad, Kevin Hazeleger, and Jihad El Masri.

It was a surprising tie at the top, showing how evenly matched the field was. Šmaukstelis benefited from this by staying near the front without wasting energy. Others who failed to register any lifts already fell behind.

The event set the tone: pressing strength alone wouldn’t guarantee the win. Endurance, consistency across events, and strategy mattered. Šmaukstelis used it as a launch point for his victory.

Event 2 — Deadlift

The second event was a deadlift for reps, with athletes using straps on a car-loaded apparatus and working for 60 seconds.

Graham Hicks dominated, completing 12 reps and collecting max points. Ramin Farajnejad took second with 9 reps. Šmaukstelis and Kelin Mills both finished with 7 reps.

This event shifted the standings. Several athletes recovered from event one and gained momentum. Conversely, those weaker in the deadlift already faced an uphill battle.

Event 3 — Sandbag Toss

Event three tested speed and coordination. Athletes tossed five sandbags (22-kg to 32-kg) over a 4.5 m bar within 60 seconds.

Brian Kichton posted the fastest time: 5 tosses in 10.78 seconds. Farajnejad was second at 10.91 s; Kevin Hazeleger third at 11.87 s. Šmaukstelis was fourth in 13.09 s.

The event revealed gaps among athletes: while many completed all tosses, the times separated the front runners. Speed and precision in tossing became important for the overall title.

Event 4 — Hummer Pull

Day two opened with the Hummer Pull. Athletes pulled a large vehicle for 25 m as fast as possible.

Jesper Hansson took the win at 19.31 s. Kelin Mills was close at 19.72 s; Adam Roszkowski followed at 19.77 s. Šmaukstelis pulled in 21.65 s, remaining in contention but not dominating.

This event tested raw leg drive, stamina and technique. Pullers who mastered the setup gained advantage. Weak starts or sloppy drive cost valuable seconds.

Event 5 — Loading Race

The penultimate event was the Loading Race: carry three sandbags (120-kg, 140-kg, 160-kg) 10 m each and load them onto a platform for time.

Péter Juhász, previously low in standings, surprised with a victory of 22.61 s. Šmaukstelis placed second (23.38 s) and his strong finish propelled him toward the top. Roszkowski and others scrambled to keep up.

This event often shakes up rankings late in a contest. Athletes who last longer and finish strong gain big point shifts. Šmaukstelis used it to move ahead of rivals.

Event 6 — Atlas Stones

The final showdown was six stones weighing 120-kg to 200-kg, loaded onto platforms for speed. Finish time decided ranking.

Šmaukstelis sealed the win with “6 in 22.79 s”, dominating the last event and clinching the title. Roszkowski took second (6 in 24.78 s); Brian Kichton third (6 in 26.57 s).

The stones event often marks who can maintain power under fatigue and pressure. For Šmaukstelis it did — his strong final carried him past rivals.
