The 2025 EPU European Classic Championships took place on March 23 in Malaga, Spain. In that event, British powerlifter Nonso Chinye dominated the Men’s 120KG category. As a result, he won gold by 35 kilograms over runner-up Nicolas Peyraud of France.
During the competition, Chinye set an IPF deadlift world record with a massive 400-kilogram lift. Because of that, he reached a staggering 965-kilogram total. In fact, that total now stands among the highest ever recorded.
At just 20 years old, he remains a Junior lifter. For that reason, his deadlift record also stands as the Junior raw world record. In addition, his total now ranks as the IPF Junior world record and the third heaviest of all time.

With only a lifting belt and chalk on his hands and legs, he made the lift look effortless. As the bar moved, it showed no signs of hesitation. In fact, anyone watching might have mistaken it for a warm-up attempt.
Following the lift, Chinye shared his thoughts in the caption of his post. According to him, he still had more in the tank. In his words,
“420 [kilograms] was there. RPE 7.5 to round off the day.”
With that record-breaking pull, Chinye surpassed the previous world record by four kilograms. Before this event, Lebanese powerlifter Etienne El Chaer had held the record.
