Nine Russian athletes competed across five demanding events, each aiming to make their mark on the international stage.

The 2025 Armory City Cup took place on May 24 in Tula, Russia. Altogether, nine Russian athletes competed in the one-day contest. Specifically, they clashed in five events: Dumbbell Medley, Sandbag Toss, Log Lift, Yoke and Farmer’s Carry Medley, and the Max Deadlift.

From the start, Valentin Akimov dominated the field. In every event, he placed among the top three. Consequently, he earned 39.5 out of a possible 45 points and walked away with the overall title.

Meanwhile, Alexander Klokov kept the pressure on. At each turn, he challenged Akimov with consistent finishes. Still, his 38 points left him 1.5 shy of the top spot and firmly in second place.

Finally, Dmitry Logunov rounded out the podium. Although he trailed the leader by four points, he outpaced the rest of the pack. In the end, his strong showing sealed the bronze medal in a tightly contested lineup.

Nine of Russia’s strongest athletes converged in Tula to compete in this classic test of strength. Next, they battled across five grueling events designed to challenge every facet of their power and endurance. Finally, points were awarded per event, allowing for a maximum of 45 points.

Meanwhile, Valentin Akimov demonstrated remarkable consistency. He avoided finishing below fourth in any event. Consequently, Akimov finished just 1.5 points ahead of Alexander Klokov in a tightly contested battle.

Ultimately, Dmitry Logunov’s incredible deadlift secured him the third spot on the podium. Furthermore, Roman Druzhinin remained competitive but settled for fourth, two points behind Logunov. Overall, the competition highlighted Russia’s depth in strongman talent.

The dumbbell medley featured four implements, ranging from 80 to 110 kilograms. Next, Alexander Klokov was the only athlete to complete all four dumbbells, finishing in 31.87 seconds. Meanwhile, three others managed the entire set, but at slower times.

Furthermore, Valentin Akimov lifted three dumbbells in a blistering 24.18 seconds. This performance kept him close to Klokov’s pace. Consequently, the medley set an early tone for the competition.

Finally, even partial completions contributed valuable points. Every dumbbell moved meant crucial advantage in the overall standings. Overall, the event pushed athletes to combine strength and speed under pressure.

Athletes tossed a 16-kilogram sandbag for maximum distance. Next, Valentin Akimov launched the bag 11.1 meters, securing the event win. Meanwhile, Alexander Klokov and Dmitry Logunov followed with solid throws over 9 meters.

Furthermore, several athletes clustered around the eight-meter mark. Every centimeter counted in the tight scoring race. Consequently, the toss tightened the competition heading into mid-events.

Finally, Matvei Mohonko struggled with a toss just under five meters. This setback left him trailing in the overall standings. Overall, explosive power and technique proved key in this explosive event.

The log lift offered a choice between 120 and 150 kilograms to complete as many reps as possible in 60 seconds. Next, Valentin Akimov dominated with four reps at 150 kilograms, extending his lead.

Meanwhile, Alexander Klokov, Dmitry Logunov, Roman Druzhinin, and Egor Makarov all managed three reps at 150 kilograms, keeping them close. Yulian Kuznetsov impressed with four reps at 120 kilograms.

Finally, Pavel Ivashkin barely registered with a single rep at 120 kilograms. Matvei Mohonko failed to complete a lift, placing him at the bottom. Overall, pressing strength proved crucial for the podium fight.

Athletes carried a 330-kilogram yoke and a 130-kilogram farmer’s carry for 20 meters each. Next, Alexander Klokov blitzed through in 18.37 seconds, setting the fastest time.

Meanwhile, Valentin Akimov and Roman Druzhinin clocked solid runs around 24 seconds. Dmitry Logunov slowed slightly with nearly 30 seconds on the clock.

Furthermore, several competitors failed to complete the full distance. Matvei Mohonko managed only 13.5 meters, sealing last place. Overall, speed and grip strength separated the top from the rest.

The final event was the max deadlift, testing raw pulling power. Next, Dmitry Logunov stunned the crowd with an enormous 380-kilogram lift.

Meanwhile, Valentin Akimov and Egor Makarov tied at 360 kilograms to secure vital points. Alexander Klokov and Roman Druzhinin managed 320 kilograms.

Finally, the field tapered off, with Pavel Ivashkin and Matvei Mohonko posting lighter lifts. Overall, Logunov’s deadlift surge solidified his third-place finish.
