The 2024 Strongest Man in Netherlands (Sterkste Man van Nederland) took place on July 7 in Deventer. Furthermore, the event saw the top 12 Dutch strongmen competing in six grueling events. Moreover, at the end of the day, Kevin Hazeleger emerged as the champion with the highest point total.

Furthermore, Hazeleger secured his win by dominating four events and earning second place in two others. Also, his performance was enough to surpass the previous four-time champion, Kelvin de Ruiter, despite de Ruiter’s valiant efforts to retain his title.

Event Recap & Highlights

Event 1 — Truck Pull

The first event of the 2024 Strongest Man in Netherlands was the Truck Pull. Furthermore, athletes had to pull a 16,000-kg (35,274-lb) vehicle for 25 meters within a 60-second time limit.

Moreover, Kelvin de Ruiter set the bar high, winning the event with a time of 23.98 seconds. Also, his performance underscored his determination to defend his title.

Additionally, Kevin Hazeleger also showed strong form, finishing just 1.33 seconds behind de Ruiter. Also, this close result was crucial for Hazeleger, as he aimed to excel in the upcoming events and stay competitive throughout the competition.

Event 2 — Log Press

The second event tested upper body strength with the Log Press. Moreover, athletes had three attempts to lift their one rep max, with a 60-second time cap for each attempt.

Furthermore, Angelo van der Pas initially failed a 175-kilogram (385.8-pound) lift but succeeded on his second try. Also, this performance earned him maximum points. Van der Pas also attempted 200 kilograms (440.9 pounds) on his final lift but did not succeed.

Additionally, Kevin Hazeleger outperformed Kelvin de Ruiter, lifting 170 kilograms (374.8 pounds). Moreover, this was 10 kilograms (22 pounds) more than de Ruiter, highlighting Hazeleger’s edge in this event.

Event 3 — Carry & Sled Drag Medley

The third event featured a multi-part challenge. However, athletes first carried and loaded three implements—75 kg, 100 kg, and 140 kg—each for 10 meters. Furthermore, they then dragged a 315-kg sled for an additional 20 meters. The fastest time won.

In addition, Kevin Hazeleger and Kelvin de Ruiter were neck and neck in this event. However, Hazeleger narrowly edged out de Ruiter by 1.5 seconds. Also, his winning time of 39.34 seconds earned him his first event victory and marked the beginning of his winning streak.

Event 4 — Husafell Carry

The fourth event, the Husafell Carry, tested the athletes’ endurance. Moreover, they had to carry a 180-kg stone as far as possible. This grueling challenge pushed them to their limits.

Furthermore, Kevin Hazeleger topped the leaderboards for the second consecutive event. Also, he carried the stone 47.2 meters before dropping it, securing first place. Moreover, Kelvin de Ruiter came in second with a distance of 45.43 meters. Lastly, Max Gelder finished third, being the only other competitor to surpass 40 meters.

The Car Deadlift for Reps was the penultimate event at the 2024 Strongest Man in Netherlands. Moreover, athletes had to lift a 330-kg car as many times as they could.

Furthermore, Kevin Hazeleger and Kelvin de Ruiter were neck and neck once again. However, both managed 5 repetitions, tying for first place. They shared the top points, continuing their fierce competition.

Additionally, Kevin Hazeleger clinched his fourth consecutive event win by loading four stones in 25.65 seconds. Furthermore, this impressive performance secured his title as the 2024 Strongest Man in Netherlands.

Lastly, Max Gelder finished second, loading four stones in 32.46 seconds, while Quincy Abbink took third with a time of 34.27 seconds for the same number of stones.
