The 2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic took place in Iceland from Nov. 22-24, 2024. Furthermore, this prestigious event showcased some of the world’s strongest athletes, all vying for the title. Notably, Poland’s Mateusz Kieliszkowski delivered an exceptional performance, earning 111.5 out of 135 possible points. Importantly, this victory marked his first elite international win since the 2019 World’s Ultimate Strongman contest in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Tristain Hoath of Canada pushed hard to challenge Kieliszkowski. In the end, he secured second place with an impressive 107 points. However, his efforts fell just short of overtaking the Polish strongman. At the same time, a fierce battle unfolded for third place. Ultimately, Andrew Burton of the United States edged out Canada’s Wesley Derwinsky by a razor-thin margin of half a point.

Throughout the competition, athletes faced an intense test of strength and endurance. Furthermore, each of the nine events required a unique combination of power, technique, and grit. As the weekend unfolded, the contest highlighted the extraordinary capabilities of these elite competitors.

2024 Magnús Ver Magnússon Strongman Classic Official Results

Mateusz Kieliszkowski finished in first place with 111.5 points. Following closely, Tristain Hoath secured second with 107 points. Additionally, Andrew Burton claimed third place with 96.5 points. Meanwhile, Wes Derwinsky rounded out the top four with 96 points. In fifth, Tiano Faapoi earned 84 points. Furthermore, Audrius Jokūbaitis finished sixth with 82.5 points.

Moving down the list, Shane Flowers took seventh with 77 points. Evans Nana Aryee placed eighth with 63 points. Moreover, Aivars Šmaukstelis finished ninth with 57.5 points. Nikoloz Lekaidze took tenth with 56 points. Rongo Keene came in eleventh with 55 points. Similarly, Didzis Zariņš secured twelfth place with 54 points. Kristján Níelsson finished thirteenth with 46.5 points. Finally, Tyler Sigurdson and Pálmi Gudfinnsson took fourteenth and fifteenth, finishing with 43 and 32.5 points, respectively.

Event Results

1. Rock Press

To begin, the first event, the Rock Press, saw Kieliszkowski take the lead with a press of 151 kg. In second, Hoath, Burton, and Aryee all tied with 134 kg. Moreover, several competitors, such as Jokūbaitis, Keene, and Flowers, managed 100 kg. Other athletes, including Derwinsky, Faapoi, and Sigurdson, finished with that same weight.

In contrast, some struggled to reach even 100 kg. For instance, Zariņš and Aryee performed with 100 kg but fell short of completing the press. Consequently, the event clearly demonstrated the importance of strength in this opening challenge.

2. Hercules Hold

Andrew Burton showcased impressive endurance, completing the hold for 59.01 seconds. In comparison, Rongo Keene followed closely with a time of 46.47 seconds. Moreover, Mateusz Kieliszkowski demonstrated his strength, holding for 43.88 seconds. Tristain Hoath was not far behind, finishing at 44.11 seconds. Additionally, Nikoloz Lekaidze recorded 41.74 seconds, securing a strong position.

On the other hand, Shane Flowers and Tiano Faapoi rounded out the top performers with times of 39.87 and 38.12 seconds, respectively. Meanwhile, Audrius Jokūbaitis held for 35.91 seconds. Furthermore, Pálmi Gudfinnsson managed 34.43 seconds. Wesley Derwinsky completed the hold for 33.81 seconds, while Kristján Níelsson achieved 29.9 seconds. Finally, Evans Nana Aryee, Aivars Šmaukstelis, Didzis Zariņš, and Tyler Sigurdson had times of 28.63, 26.38, 25.2, and 24.29 seconds, respectively.

3. Húsafell Stone

The Húsafell Stone event saw Kieliszkowski lead the pack, carrying the stone 68 meters. However, Jokūbaitis and Níelsson were not far behind, reaching 65.8 and 59.7 meters, respectively. In addition, Hoath managed a solid 54.9 meters, placing him mid-range. Several athletes, including Faapoi and Flowers, carried the stone impressive distances as well, though not exceeding 60 meters.

On the other hand, the lower performers faced significant challenges. For example, Keene only carried the stone 26.9 meters. Furthermore, Zariņš and Aryee struggled to even reach 30 meters, finishing with just 25.2 and 28.63 meters. Overall, the event highlighted both physical strength and endurance.

4. Carry Medley

For the Carry Medley, Derwinsky took the top spot with a time of 33.09 seconds. Not far behind, Burton finished with 33.36 seconds. In addition, Kieliszkowski placed third with a time of 34.04 seconds. Furthermore, Šmaukstelis secured fourth, completing the medley in 34.42 seconds. Other athletes, including Faapoi, Zariņš, and Sigurdson, also performed well, finishing in under 45 seconds.

However, some competitors faced greater challenges. Keene finished with a time of 41.89 seconds. Similarly, Lekaidze and Aryee struggled to post competitive times, both failing to break the one-minute mark. This event clearly showcased the importance of speed and strength in combination.

5. Sandbag Toss

In the Sandbag Toss, Flowers set the pace by completing six tosses in 11.81 seconds. Likewise, Derwinsky managed all six tosses in 13.75 seconds. In addition, Faapoi and Kieliszkowski completed their six tosses in 15.63 and 16.16 seconds, respectively. Furthermore, several other athletes, including Burton and Hoath, finished under 20 seconds.

Conversely, the bottom performers struggled to complete the event. Sigurdson and Aryee both had difficulty tossing all six bags. Additionally, Šmaukstelis only managed four tosses. Similarly, Zariņš completed only three tosses, showcasing the challenge of the event.

6. Natural Stones

Initially, Kieliszkowski dominated the Natural Stones event, lifting five stones in 30.39 seconds. Following closely, Sigurdson completed five stones in 39.54 seconds. Moreover, Jokūbaitis finished third with five stones in 49.59 seconds. In addition, Faapoi and Derwinsky completed four stones, with times of 53.43 and 67.07 seconds, respectively.

Meanwhile, some competitors struggled with the event. Flowers finished with three stones in 70.57 seconds. Furthermore, Zariņš also lifted three stones, completing them in 39.83 seconds. However, Keene and Aryee completed only three stones, struggling significantly. Lastly, the event demonstrated the raw strength and technique required to complete the lifts.

7. Vertical Lift

For the Vertical Lift, Burton took the lead with six reps in 30.2 seconds. Moreover, Hoath followed closely with five reps in 20.68 seconds. Furthermore, Derwinsky also impressed, completing five reps in 31.99 seconds. Lastly, Kieliszkowski and Faapoi both finished with four reps, but their times were less competitive.

However, the lower finishes highlighted the difficulty of the event. Aryee and Lekaidze, for example, could only manage one or two reps. Consequently, the event emphasized the technical skill and power necessary for success in this challenge.

8. Silver Dollar Deadlift

In the Silver Dollar Deadlift, most athletes completed the 380 kg barbell. Furthermore, Hoath, Derwinsky, Faapoi, Kieliszkowski, and Burton were among those who achieved successful lifts. Moreover, Flowers, Šmaukstelis, and several others joined the group of successful lifters. On the other hand, Keene and Sigurdson struggled to match the pace, finishing with lower scores.

However, despite the challenge, nearly all competitors pushed their limits. Also, each athlete focused on maintaining proper form while lifting the heavy weights. Ultimately, the event showcased the raw power needed to complete the deadlift under competition conditions.

For the Log Medley, Kieliszkowski finished first by pressing four logs in 29.56 seconds. Furthermore, Derwinsky followed closely with a time of 39.23 seconds. Additionally, Zariņš, Faapoi, and Flowers all completed the event in under 45 seconds. However, some athletes struggled to finish within the time limit, with Sigurdson and Burton failing to meet the standard.

Meanwhile, other athletes, such as Šmaukstelis and Gudfinnsson, were unable to complete all four logs. Gudfinnsson finished last in the event, only pressing two logs. Therefore, the Log Medley proved to be a true test of strength and speed.
