The 2024 CrossFit North America West Semifinal took place on May 24-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Furthermore, it was one of the strongest Semifinal competitions of the season, featuring multiple experienced athletes and promising new prospects. Moreover, three tough and competitive days, Justin Medeiros and Abigail Domit emerged victorious in their respective divisions.

Additionally, this Semifinal offered a significant number of qualifying spots for the upcoming CrossFit Games. Moreover, the top nine men, top eight women, and top seven teams secured their places in the season’s finals. However, this made the competition especially fierce and exciting.

2024 CrossFit North America West Semifinal Official Results

Men

After a forgettable 2023 season, Justin Medeiros is determined to reclaim the title of Fittest Man On Earth. Moreover, his performance in the early stages of the 2024 season has been impressive. Also, Medeiros won the CrossFit North America West Semifinal, despite not winning any individual events. Furthermore, he consistently placed in the top 8, showcasing his resilience and skill. Notably, this achievement is notable given the formidable lineup of competitors.

Additionally, as the final event approached, Brent Fikowski seemed set to claim the top spot. However, he finished 10th in the concluding workout. Also, this significantly impacted his standings and caused him to lose crucial points. However, the last-minute twist altered the expected outcome of the competition.

Women

Abigail Domit’s CrossFit Games debut last year served as a catalyst for her pursuit of greater athletic prowess. Moreover, returning this year, she emerged triumphant in the 2024 CrossFit North America West Semifinal. However, despite her 26th-place finish last year, expectations for her performance in the upcoming 2024 CrossFit Games are significantly higher.

In addition, Domit’s dominance was evident as she surpassed the 500-point mark, securing victory in her Semifinal with relative ease. Furthermore, throughout the competition, she engaged in a close battle with Alex Gazan. However, Gazan’s 23rd-place finish in the penultimate event provided Domit with a more comfortable path to victory.

Teams

The Teams division witnessed an outstanding display from ‘CrossFit Invictus’, reigning champions from the 2023 CrossFit Games. Moreover, their performance at the 2024 CrossFit North America West Semifinal was nothing short of remarkable. Also, demonstrating unparalleled determination, they clinched victory in three out of the five events. Furthermore, it’s evident that they are fiercely committed to defending their title this year.

Individual Division Event Recap

Workout One

In Workout One, athletes faced 5 rounds for time. Each round included an 800-meter run and 10 clean and jerks. The time cap was set at 30 minutes. James Sprague finished first in the men’s division with 23:28.33. Brent Fikowski and Chris Ibarra followed closely behind. Caitlin Bernardin led the women’s division, finishing in 23:56.00. Emily Rolfe and Hattie Kanyo secured second and third places, respectively.

5 rounds for time:

  • 800-meter run
  • 10 clean and jerks (Women: 125-lb / 56.7-kg, Men: 185-lb / 83.9-kg)
  • Time cap: 30 minutes

Men’s Results:

  1. James Sprague — 23:28.33
  2. Brent Fikowski — 23:38.50
  3. Chris Ibarra — 23:44.66

Women’s Results:

  1. Caitlin Bernardin — 23:56.00
  2. Emily Rolfe — 24:15.58
  3. Hattie Kanyo — 24:37.84

Workout Two

Workout Two tested speed and skills with 5 rounds for time. Each round included 100 double-unders, 20 toes-to-bars, and 10 front squats. The front squat weights were 155-lb for women and 225-lb for men. The time cap was 18 minutes. Colten Mertens excelled in the men’s division with 10:45.75. Patrick Vellner and Justin Medeiros followed. Arielle Loewen led the women’s division with 11:41.68. Rebecca Fuselier and Alex Gazan completed the top three.

  • 100 double-unders
  • 20 toes-to-bars
  • 10 front squats (Women: 155-lb / 70.3-kg, Men: 225-lb / 102-kg)
  • Time cap: 18 minutes

Men’s Results:

  2. Patrick Vellner — 11:02.91
  3. Justin Medeiros — 11:13.65

Women’s Results:

  1. Arielle Loewen — 11:41.68

Workout Three

Workout Three featured 7 rounds for time. Each round included a 10-calorie Echo bike sprint, 1 legless rope climb, and 10 box jump-overs. Women used a 24-inch box and men used a 30-inch box. The time cap was 16 minutes. James Sprague dominated the men’s division with 08:24.23. Patrick Vellner and Justin Medeiros followed him. Alex Gazan led the women’s division with 10:27.71. Emily Rolfe and Lynsey Martin took second and third.

  • 10-calorie Echo bike
  • 1 legless rope climb
  • 10 box jump-overs (Women: 24-inch box, Men: 30-inch box)
  • 1 legless rope climb
  • Time cap: 16 minutes

Workout Four

Workout Four involved rowing and handstand walks for time. Athletes completed a 400-meter row, 96-foot handstand walk, 600-meter row, 120-foot handstand walk, 800-meter row, and a 72-foot handstand walk. The time cap was 13 minutes. Cole Greashaber finished first in the men’s division with 07:14.72. Samuel Kwant and Brandon Luckett followed. Olivia Kerstetter led the women’s division with 08:28.64. Arielle Loewen and Trista Smith completed the top three.

  • 96-foot handstand walk
  • 600-meter row
  • 120-foot handstand walk
  • 800-meter row
  • 72-foot handstand walk
  • Time cap: 13 minutes

Workout Five

Workout Five featured squat snatches for time. Athletes completed 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 squat snatches within 11 minutes. Women lifted from 135 to 175 lb, men from 185 to 265 lb. Colten Mertens topped the men’s division with 05:07.62. Brent Fikowski and Cole Greashaber followed. Olivia Kerstetter led the women’s division with 03:58.36. Kelsey Kiel and Dani Speegle took second and third places.

  • 10 squat snatches by 2:00
  • 8 squat snatches by 4:00
  • 6 squat snatches by 6:00
  • 4 squat snatches by 8:00
  • 2 squat snatches by 11:00
  • Time cap: 11 minutes
  • Women: 135 / 145 / 155 / 165 / 175 lb (61.2 / 65.8 / 70.3 / 74.8 / 79.4 kg)
  • Men: 185 / 205 / 225 / 245 / 265 lb (83.9 / 93 / 102 / 111.1 / 120.2 kg)

Workout Six was a short, intense challenge for time. It included a 30/22-calorie Echo bike, 15 muscle-ups, and a 72-foot dumbbell walking lunge. The weights were 70-lb for women and 100-lb for men. The time cap was 6 minutes. Tudor Magda finished first in the men’s division with 02:15.97. Justin Medeiros and James Sprague followed. Alex Gazan led the women’s division with 02:57.00. Nicole Mghenyi and Abigail Domit completed the top three.

For time:

  • 30/22-calorie Echo bike
  • 15 muscle-ups
  • 72-foot dumbbell walking lunge (Women: Two 70-lb / 31.8-kg dumbbells, Men: Two 100-lb / 45.3-kg dumbbells)
  • Time cap: 6 minutes
